**ST PETER & ST PAUL’S ANGLICAN CHURCH OTTAWA**
**JOB DESCRIPTION**
The Rector holds the office of “the cure of souls” [BCP 2019] of the parish-exercising authority in all areas of the Christian faith and practice, both spiritually and temporally-as duly appointed and licensed by the Diocesan
Bishop of ANiC. The Rector shepherds the church through prayer, godly example, faithful teaching of the Bible and proclamation of the gospel, leading worship, visioning, chairing Parish Council and Vestry, and pastoral care.
In so doing the Rector equips the parish to fulfill its God-given mission. The Rector does not seek to ‘do it all alone’, but rather gives oversight to others who share in the mission and ministry of the parish. The Rector relies upon the Holy Spirit for guidance and power to fulfill this ministry.
**SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE RECTOR**
1. Preaching & Education a) Primary preacher and teacher in the parish b) Assignment and oversight of other preachers, teachers and Christian education leaders
2. Liturgy & Sacraments a) Primary celebrant & worship leader in the parish b) Oversight of all aspects of worship and of all those giving leadership or assisting in various elements of worship (e.g., musicians, altar guild, readers, etc.) c) Oversight of preparation for baptism, confirmation, and marriage
3. Visioning a) Prayerful leadership in discerning God’s vision and direction for the parish and its mission to the world b) Clear and encouraging communication of vision and direction to parish leaders and members
4. Leadership a) Encouraging and equipping church members to discover, develop and employ their gifts for ministry, including delegating ministry responsibilities as appropriate b) Team building to encourage specific ministry teams and the parish as a whole to work together in a loving and godly manner c) Mentoring and oversight of parish staff, clergy and lay leaders
5. Self-Care a) Daily prayer, Bible Reading and walk with the Lord b) Good boundaries to maintain personal health and relationships, including weekly Sabbath and annual holidays c) Continuing education, including annual study breaks and observance of ANIC’s sabbatical policy
6. Pastoral Care a) Demonstrating Christ’s love and welcome for all people b) Oversight of pastoral care and of those giving leadership in pastoral ministry
(e.g., healing ministry and visitation of the sick, funerals, weddings, etc.) c) Support of and participation in key parish programs and fellowship occasions
7. Administration a) Chairing Parish Council and Vestry meetings b) Working with the Wardens, Treasurer, Staff and Council to promote good financial stewardship in the parish c) Working with the Vestry Clerk, Treasurer, Wardens, and Staff to ensure the smooth operation of the parish office and the timely completion of all necessary forms and documents
(e.g., charity returns, ANIC and ANIC annual reports, etc.) d) Oversight of parish communications (e.g., newsletters)
8. Connection to the Wider Church and World a) Demonstrating commitment to and support for local and global missions b) Visibility in the local community c) Linking the parish to the diocese including good communication as well as involvement in diocesan life under the direction of the bishop (e.g., attendance at synod and clergy meetings)
**REMUNERATION & BENEFITS**
- Salary: As set by Parish Council with diocesan remuneration plan as guide (a portion of this amount is a tax-free housing benefit)
- Pension: Full enrolment (including family, if applicable) in diocesan benefits plan: employer contributes 10% to RRSP pension, and employee contributes 4%
- Health: In addition to Canadian Health Care, 100% prescription coverage
- Extended health: Hospital semi-private and paramedical coverage
- Vision Care: - $200 every two years
- Dental: - 80% visits, 80% minor procedures, 50% major procedures
- Vacation: Four (4) weeks annual paid vacation, two (2) weeks annual continuing education leave
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Ottawa, ON K2P 1N9: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
