Summary

Reporting to the Vice-Rector, Governance and Secretary General, the incumbent supports Saint Paul University's (SPU) outreach and projects by establishing a sustainable philanthropic culture within the community. The Director of Philanthropic Development and Outreach ensures financial contributions from private sources aimed at achieving the University's strategic priorities. To this end, the director builds lasting and rewarding relationships with alumni, donors, volunteers and friends of SPU so they can participate in the University's mission and outreach.

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Philanthropic Development and Outreach is the leader of fundraising strategies for the University. This person leads fundraising as well as fundraising campaigns for the University. The director inspires others through their sincerity, their ability to engage teams to move toward change and their determination to achieve results.

The director is responsible for:
  • Developing the orientations, objectives, priorities, strategies and action plans of the services for which it is responsible.
  • Ensuring the planning, management and implementation of the annual fundraising campaign to achieve financial objectives.
  • Developing and implementing a strategy and a campaign for major gifts, together with the Rector and senior management.
  • Leading, supporting and mobilizing the fundraising team based on the sector's best practices and in keeping with university campaigns and philanthropic vision as well as the annual planning and setting of objectives.
  • Developing and evaluating strategic fundraising approaches to attract major philanthropic investments that complement and improve programs.
  • Raising the University's profile among charitable organizations and institutional advancement.
  • Working closely with key internal and external stakeholders to coordinate, align and develop fundraising initiatives.
  • Managing a large portfolio of current and potential donors.
  • Evaluating periodically the performance of fundraising activities and ensuring the effectiveness of monitoring systems.
  • Performing an annual review of processes and ensuring their ongoing improvement.
  • Doing strategic monitoring to identify partnership opportunities and monitor trends in philanthropy.
  • Managing the team in a way that creates a motivating, engaging and considerate work environment.
  • Demonstrating leadership and motivation to expand the University's circle of partners, including individuals as well as the business community and foundations, in order to increase the University's revenues.
  • Taking part in various events to create and maintain close relationships with potential donors.
The director also supports and encourages the Alumni Association and serves as a liaison between the Association and the University. In addition, the director provides overall guidance for the Association's activities.

Education, Experience and Knowledge
  • University degree (a master's degree would be an asset); CFRE certification. An application from a person who has an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in the area of fundraising, including, ideally, at least two (2) years as leader of a major fundraising campaign and also in activities for soliciting major and planned gifts.
  • Excellent knowledge of Saint Paul University and its philanthropy policies.
  • Knowledge of the charitable sector, associations and the university sector.
  • Basic understanding of tax rules that apply to major gifts.
  • Excellent oral and written language skills in English and French.
  • Strong skills in managing diverse teams and maintaining an inclusive work environment.
  • Ability to motivate, lead, supervise and evaluate people, programs and performance.
  • Be determined, dynamic, perceptive and focused on results to be achieved.
  • Ability to think outside the box.
  • Ability to work productively in a multi-tasking environment and at an intensive pace.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a car are essential.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends on occasion.
  • Requires some local travel.

Résumé des fonctions

Sous la supervision de la Vice-rectrice à la gouvernance et Secrétaire générale, ce poste soutient le rayonnement et les projets de l'Université Saint-Paul en instaurant une culture philanthropique pérenne au sein de la communauté. La direction au développement philanthropique et rayonnement assure l'apport financier de source privée destiné à réaliser les priorités stratégiques de l'établissement. À cet égard, la direction bâtit des relations durables et enrichissantes avec les personnes diplômées, les donatrices et donateurs, les bénévoles et les amies et amis de l'USP afin qu'ils puissent participer à la mission et au rayonnement de l'Université.

Fonctions principales

La direction au développement philanthropique et rayonnement est le leader des stratégies d'approche de collecte de fonds de l'Université. Cette personne dirige la collecte de fonds ainsi que les campagnes de collecte de fonds à l'échelle de l'Université. La direction inspire par son authenticité, par sa capacité à engager des équipes vers le changement et par sa détermination à atteindre les résultats.

La direction est responsable de :
  • Élaborer les orientations, les objectifs, les priorités, les stratégies et les plans d'action des services sous sa responsabilité.
  • Assurer la planification, la gestion et la mise en place de la campagne annuelle de collecte de fonds dans le but d'atteindre les objectifs financiers.
