The primary purpose of the position is to provide technical support and services for the development and validation of additive manufacturing (direct laser deposition) technology to support NRC and its clients. This includes developing processing parameters, creating and preliminary evaluation of laser deposited samples, producing prototype parts, and operation and maintenance of lasers, CNC and robotic motion systems, powder/wire feeders, and other related equipment in the laboratory.

**Education**:
College diploma in welding, CNC machining, robotics, additive manufacturing or related field.

A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, materials engineering or a related field may be considered an asset.

**Experience**:

- Significant experience in operating CNC machines
- Significant experience in robotics
- Experience with the safe operation, maintenance/verification/repair and/or installation of equipment such as laboratory apparatus, mechanical or electrical machinery, hand and power tools and/or material handling equipment.
- Experience with additive manufacturing or welding processing.
- Experience with lasers and optics
- Experience in operating processing and analytical facilities.

**Assessment Criteria**:
**Technical Competencies**:

- Knowledge of applied practices and basic concepts relating to materials processing.
- Ability to use appropriate CAD/CAM software (such as AutoCAD, MasterCAM, SolidWorks, etc.) to design and modify complex fixtures and other hardware required for conducting experiments, as well as general office software products.
- Ability to analyze and discuss technical issues, troubleshoot and solve problems relating to operating equipment and process development for additive manufacturing technology.
- Ability to write, review and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), describe, escalate and report any deviations and write reports and draft protocols.
- Ability to maintain expensive high-power laser, multi-axis CNC motion system, robotic cell, precision powder feeder and other related equipment in the laboratory.
- Ability to participate in the design of experiments.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety best practices required to create and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

**Compensation**:
From $58,445 to $80,040 per annum.
