Rural Acute Care Manager

**Your Opportunity**:
AHS has an exciting opportunity for a Rural Acute Care Manager at the Drumheller Health Centre, with direct responsibility for management of the site, clinical operations for Surgical Services, and programmatic leadership for the emergency department. In this position you will serve a diverse patient population in a rural community with a continual focus on the AHS Patient First and Our People strategies. You will lead and coordinate the activities of the health care team and liaise with regional departments, medical staff, external organizations and communities to coordinate and integrate patient programs and services at the facility. Your strong communication skills, effective quality improvement, advanced Human Resources experience and budget knowledge is essential to making you successful in the role. You will support and advance professional nursing knowledge and practice and develop and maintain strong working relationships by working collaboratively with staff from all departments, community agencies and regional services. Your role will also include responsibility for the recruitment and performance management of human resources in a unionized environment. You will support an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and health maintenance, while providing safe, quality patient and family centered care. Reporting to the Director, Acute Care Southeast and Primary Care, you will be responsible and accountable for leading and implementing health services within the city and surrounding areas of Drumheller, in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services.
**Description**:
The Rural Acute Manager is responsible to provide site management for the Drumheller Hospital and Health Centre, and is directly responsible for clinical operations of Surgical Services and has programmatic responsibility for the Emergency Department. In addition, this position will have responsibility to inform and support the implementation of local, zonal, and/or provincial initiatives within an identified program area. Key areas of responsibility include: workplace health and safety, disaster management and planning, site project work, as well as collaborating with managers from all departments and maintaining positive relationships with key local health care stakeholders. You will be accountable to ensure that patients/residents/clients receive quality nursing services through maintaining, supporting & enabling direct care providers; developing and communicating knowledge & policy; and ensuring that necessary human, technological, informational & supply resources are in place to provide safe, competent & ethical care. You will maintain open communication systems between Central Zone and the site(s) in order to promote the dissemination of accurate information, advancement of organizational perspectives, planning & objectives and promote interdepartmental collaboration.

**Required Qualifications**:
A post-secondary degree in a health profession, health administration, leadership or other comparable degree Registration with an Alberta Regulated Health Profession, as appropriate. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional development (e.g. continuing education courses)

Progressive experience in a health care environment in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. Uses strategic thinking, taking into account long-term goals assessing options and implications. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources within a complex environment. Strong organizational skills, client-focused orientation and commitment to providing long-term quality services. Experience in collaborating with physicians and other health care professionals. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as demonstrated effective problem solving. Demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Ability to foster relationships across the organization to further the effectiveness of both the site(s) managed and programs contained within.
