Raytheon ELCAN Optical Technologies is continuing its commitment to invest in the development of our employees. We are looking for positive, detail oriented individuals with a commitment to quality and further education. The Apprenticeship program is a 4 year commitment that will include scheduled rotations in the workplace to achieve 8000 hours, attending school and writing all applicable tests. All applicants will be required to go through an Apprenticeship Aptitude Test and Interview process.

Thin Film Optician Apprentices will receive training in more advanced optical thin film processes, equipment, and software. This training will consist of learning how to use metrology equipment to perform and interpret ellipsometry and spectrophotometer scans, thin film design software, and to gain experience on all the processes and equipment in the thin film coating lab. The Thin Film Optician Apprentices will also receive a well-rounded education in all optical manufacturing areas. This will include training in the manufacturing of plano, spherical, asphere, and diamond turned optical components. An introductory course on the design of electro optical systems will also be included.

**Technical Requirements**
- O.S.S.D. or equivalent required.
- College diploma in a technical discipline or equivalent is preferred.
- Exposure to technical drawing packages.
- Experience with the handling of optical components would be an asset.
- Preferred to have previous vacuum technology and/or thin film coating experience.
- Preferred to have basic knowledge of tooling, grinding, milling, and bevelling, cleaning optics, handling and loading.

**Key Competencies**
- Ensuring that work accomplished is accurate in all relevant aspects.
- Handling a large amount of work efficiently and effectively.
- Effectively adapting to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and sudden or frequent changes in priority in order to accomplish objectives.
- Demonstrating self-motivation, effective performance is driven from within rather than being conditional on pressure from external factors
- Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance
- Previous experience with handling optics is essential. Applicant must have the dexterity to clean and load various sizes of optical components.
- Exposure to computer software, MS Word, Excel and AutoCAD would be an asset.
- Strong well-rounded math skills.
- Must be able to work various shifts as deemed necessary.
