**About the Opportunity**:
The Driving While Impaired (DWI) / Alcohol Ignition Interlock Program (AIIP) Community Outreach Worker under the direction of the Clinical Manager Community Based Services is responsible for the systems-informed early identification, crisis intervention, dependency assessment, psycho-educational group programming, referral, supportive rehabilitative counselling and follow-up of clients of Mental Health & Addiction Services in a variety of community locations and contexts. The DWI/AIIP Community Outreach Worker position focuses primarily on delivering designated components of the Driving While Impaired and Alcohol Ignition Interlock Programs throughout the Nova Scotia Health Authority.

This position also functions in a consultative capacity and acts as a community resource in terms of pre-treatment contacts, informal assessments, pre-screening and vocational crisis. The position assists the individual to adopt a healthier lifestyle by presenting appropriate options, alternatives and community resources and also participates in the delivery of prevention and health promotion programs.

The Community Outreach Worker is an advocate for the client and the community creating links with the community and its agencies. The Community Outreach Worker functions as a member of the Community Based Services team in a collaborative, consultative and cooperative manner with other Mental Health & Addiction programs. Sound working understanding of the community health approach and community services systems is required.

The Community Outreach Worker ensures that the principles and practices that guide Mental Health & Addictions/NSHA such as the mission, vision, values, expected behaviours, the leadership philosophy, organizational health, population health, ethics, safety, quality, partnerships and interprofessional collaboration are integrated within the services they provide and through the messages they deliver.

**About You**:
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

- Bachelor of Social Work required
- Registration/licensure with a relevant body such as the Nova Scotia Association of Social Worker
- Due to the sensitive nature of the position, must possess the ability to exercise wise, fair and honest judgement in all matters.
- Must have the ability to initiate program modification, change and growth through well-designated and organized proposals.
- Professional behaviours must be in accordance with Ethical Standards and Code of Ethics.
- Knowledge of various treatment theories, practice and adult education principles
- A good understanding of social services, education system and health care delivery systems and their interaction with the needs of Mental Health & Addictions clients
- Ability to make sound decisions regarding client care and to work cooperatively with other professionals, para-professionals and community
- Good understanding of community organization and development with regards to addressing issues with substance abuse, problem gambling or other problem behaviour
- Knowledge of psycho-educational system in the field of harmful involvement, interpersonal skills, intra-personal reflective skills, critical analysis of social issues

- Commit to maintain and protect patient, client and personal safety on an ongoing basis
- Competencies in other languages as asset, French preferred
