**THE CHALLENGE**

The **Ukrainian Evacuees Support Program** aims to build upon an existing program that has proven to support Ukrainian evacuees in their employment journey, by including a language component, for Ukrainian evacuees looking to gain employment or better employment opportunities. This project will focus on supporting Ukrainians with lower levels of English (CLB 3) with the ultimate outcome that Ukrainian evacuees have enhanced access to English language learning opportunities to support their integration in the Alberta labour market.

**THE OPPORTUNITY**

With the overarching goal of enhancing English language for Ukrainian evacuees so they may successfully attain and retain employment, the instructor will play a pivotal role in equipping them with the necessary language skills. Over the course of four cohorts, each consisting of 15 students and spanning 13 weeks, the instructor will employ innovative teaching methods to advance CLB level 3 speakers to level 4.

Emphasizing workplace and everyday community-based language, the instructor will create and tailor curriculum to address the specific needs and challenges faced by Ukrainian evacuees, ensuring they acquire the language proficiency required for successful integration into the labour market. This role not only involves teaching language skills, but also fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment that empowers individuals to achieve their goals and contribute effectively to their new communities.

**WHAT IT TAKES**

The project team consists of two team members, the English Language Instructor and an Employment Placement Specialist who is responsible for facilitating placement of students into Edmonton’s labour market. Given the small size of the program team, collaborative work and mutual support are paramount to program success.

Being energetic, passionate, and an imaginative outside-the-box thinker who ignites a passion for learning English and job searching techniques in our students will contribute to the success of the students in this program.

We are looking for someone with a Bachelor of Education or Arts and a TESL or ATESL Certification (Interim or Permanent). Experience in an adult ESL educational setting and creating and delivering lessons tailored for newcomers in accordance with the Canadian Language Benchmarks is an asset.

Responsibilities include:

- Developing and providing cutting-edge English language curriculum and teaching to adult newcomers, ensuring high quality and innovation in delivery
- Preparing modules, lesson plans, and daily activities consistent with the goals of the program and the needs of the learners
- Enhancing student learning techniques and real-world competencies, moving students from a CLBA 3 to a CLBA 4 in preparation for employment opportunities
- Assisting in overseeing and evaluating activities in accordance with the stipulations of the grant
