Edmonton, Canada Multicultural Family Resource Society Full time

**START DATE**: TBD

**TIME OF DAY**: TBD - tentative 10 - 12 am twice a week

**SALARY**: $30/hour for 7 hours/week

**JOB TITLE**: English for Community Integration Instructor

**PROGRAM**: ECALA - English for Community Integration

**SUPERVISOR**: Executive Director - Heidi Veluw

**ORGANIZATION**:
The Multicultural Family Resource Society (MFRS) culture is one that is productive, inclusive and supports mutual learning. The Program Manager ensures that holistic programs and projects are reflective of the needs of marginalized communities. This is accomplished by responding to the needs of newcomer families and helping communicate the needs to be understood by funders and systems.

As a values-driven organization, MFRS is grounded in the MFRS principles.

**MFRS Principles**

**Relational**: A way of interaction with and within the community in which we take time to listen, care, connect and love to build mutual support hand in hand

**Participant Driven**: Participants identify what’s important to them, what they need, and what they want to achieve. Our programs meet participants where they’re at and support them in reaching their goals.

**Empowerment**: Building community and working together to share space, opportunities, skills, and knowledge for mutual learning, self-determination and ultimate well-being

**Culturally Responsive**: Safe spaces to maintain a home culture and adapt to new connections and diversity; and developing a deeper understanding between cultures that are always changing

***:
The English Language Instructor is responsible for planning, organizing, and facilitating English lessons for refugee women, whose primary role in their family is the children’s caregiver, to provide them with an opportunity to improve their English for the purpose of improving community integration. The program will give adults an opportunity to learn while keeping their children with them or in nearby proximity, which helps reduce the financial barriers and stress related to having separate childcare, as in most other learning situations.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Plan and deliver language classes based on the needs and interests identified by participants. Some themes, topics, and areas of interest that were previously identified include:

- Canadian language, culture, and music
- Understanding the school system
- Learning how to communicate with health professionals
- Getting around: driving and/or public transit
- Computer and internet access: vocabulary and finding helpful information online
- Engage learners in various listening, speaking, reading, and writing exercises, emphasizing speaking and understanding spoken and written English.
- Provide opportunities for learners to participate in group work - including gap-fill activities, conversation circles, role-playing activities, and listening exercises.
- Provide opportunities for learners to use their skills in the community - including life skills activities and field trips encouraging interaction with the broader community.
- Provide support to childminding and program assistant staff - support them with filling out invoices or updating them about instruction times.
- Register participants, take attendance, and track the progress of participants - this will help with reporting at the end of the year.
- Meet regularly with the Director of Programs to provide program updates and reporting.
- Attend MFRS staff meetings
