AHCA Youth Leader: Summer 2024

The Amethyst Harbour Camper’s Association (AHCA) is a summer community located on the shore of Lake Superior, 30 km east of Thunder Bay. Our community is over 100 years young and for many years has provided swimming and summer activities for local children.

Working with a team of youth leaders and volunteers, the Land Sports Program Leader will assist in the planning and delivery of the AHCA Summer Sports Program for children and youth ages 5 to 14. You will develop age appropriate activities that keep children active and help them develop skills, teamwork and sportsmanship. You will model good-sportsmanship through enthusiastic, non-competitive participation and support, thereby creating a positive rapport with all campers and other leaders.

**Reports to**: AHCA Sports Program Director: Lindsay Nelson and Senior Leader

**Status**: Full-time, 30 hours/week

**Wage**: Rate of pay will vary depending on experience

**Work Term**: July 1st to August 11th, 2024

**Essential SKILLS**
- Enjoy planning and delivering activities
- Effective communicator
- Love participating in sports and games
- Ability to create and maintain a safe environment

**Desirable SKILLS**
- Experience with AHCA’s Sports program, either as a camper or leader
- Adept with electronic communication
- Proficient at one or several sports

**Qualifications**:

- Experience with children and youth 5 to 14 in a sports camp or educational setting
- Vulnerable person’s background report (to be obtained prior to signing a contract)

**Responsibilities**:

- Respect others, keep it fun and include everyone
- Assist in the planning of the sports program
- Plan, operate and deliver the weekly sports camp program
- Work with Senior Leader and Junior Leader to plan and deliver weekly recreational and evening activities
- Model good-sportsmanship through enthusiastic, non-competitive participation and support
- Create a positive rapport with all campers, other leaders, parents and volunteers
- Supervise campers during the recreational, special outing and other activities periods
- Lead groups from one activity to the next in an orderly manner
- Attend training sessions and regular meetings
- Keep accurate records, incident reports; report immediately to camp director
- Assist in the planning and delivery of Sports Weekend(Aug 3rd-5th) and Skit Night (Aug 9th)
- Attend introductory parent meeting on Sunday, June 30th at 4:00 pm
- Communicate with Parents when needed
- Assist Program Director with weekly staff meeting
- Other duties as assigned by AHCA Sports Program Senior Leader and Director

**Salary**: $15.60-$18.00 per hour
