AHCA Water Sports Program Leader: Summer 2023

The Amethyst Harbour Camper’s Association (AHCA) is a summer community located on the shore of Lake Superior, 30 km east of Thunder Bay. Our community is over 100 years young and for many years has provided swimming and summer activities for local children.

Working with a team of youth leaders, the Water Sports Program Leader will assist in the planning and delivery of the AHCA Summer Sports Program for children and youth ages 5 to 14. You will develop a water based sports program, including swimming lessons, with age appropriate activities that keep children active and help them develop skills, teamwork and sportsmanship. You will model good-sportsmanship through enthusiastic, non-competitive participation and support, thereby creating a positive rapport with all campers and other leaders.

**Reports to**:AHCA Sports Program Director: Lindsay Nelson
**Status**:Full-time, 30 hrs/wk, combined with Land Sports Program Leader
**Wage**:Rate of pay will vary depending on experience
**Work Term**:July 3rd to August 11th, 2023

(Part-time hours available in May and June for Program Leaders)

**Essential SKILLS Desirable SKILLS**:

- Enjoy planning and delivering activities
- Experience with AHCA’s Sports program,
- Effective communicator either as a camper or leader
- Experience in water sports and swimming
- Adept with electronic communication
- Ability to create and maintain a safe environment
- Sailing, or kayaking experience

**Qualifications**:

- Water Safety Instructor Certification or lifeguard qualifications and experience, or working toward those qualifications.
- Experience with children and youth 5 to 14 in a sports camp or educational setting
- Vulnerable person’s background report (to be obtained by prior to signing a contract)

**Responsibilities**:

- Respect others, keep it fun and include everyone
- Assist in the planning of the water sports program
- Direct involvement in the operation and delivery of water sports program
- Model good-sportsmanship through enthusiastic, non-competitive participation and support
- Create a positive rapport with all campers, other leaders, parents and volunteers
- Plan weekly recreational activities
- Attend training sessions and regular meetings
- Keep accurate records, incident reports; report immediately to camp director
- Assist in the planning and delivery of Sports Weekend(July 29-31) and Skit Night (Aug 11)
- Attend introductory parent meeting on Sunday, July 2nd at 4:00 pm
- Other duties as assigned by AHCA Sports Program Supervisor and Director

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Shuniah, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
