AHCA Youth Leader: Summer 2023

The Amethyst Harbour Camper’s Association (AHCA) is a summer community located on the shore ofLake Superior 30 km east of Thunder Bay. Our community is over 100 years young and for many years has provided swimming and summer activities for local children.

Working under the direction of the Land Sports and/or Water Sports Program Leaders you will assist in the delivery of the AHCA Summer Sports Program for children and youth ages 5 to 14. You will respect others, keep it fun, and include everyone. You will model good-sportsmanship through enthusiastic, non-competitive participation and support, thereby creating a positive rapport with all campers and other leaders.

**Reports to**:AHCA Sports Program Coordinator: Lindsay Nelson
**Status**:Full-time, 30 hrs/wk
**Wage**:Rate of pay will vary depending on experience
**Work Term**:July 3rd to August 11th, 2023

**Essential SKILLS Desirable SKILLS**:

- Enjoy delivering activities
- Experience with children and youth 5 to 14
- Effective communicator in a babysitting or sports camp setting.
- Punctual, reliable, respectful
- Proficient in sports and swimming
- Have been an AHCA camper or leader

**Qualifications**:

- Swim youth leaders must have relevant instructor and lifeguard qualifications and experience, or be working toward those qualifications.
- Vulnerable person’s background report (to be obtained by prior to signing a contract)

**Responsibilities**:

- Assist program leaders in the delivery of AHCA programs
- Take ownership in the delivery of Wednesday evening activities.
- Respect others, keep it fun and include everyone
- Model good-sportsmanship through enthusiastic, non-competitive participation and support
- Create a positive rapport with all campers, other leaders, parents and volunteers
- Encourage campers during the recreational, special outing and other activities periods
- Lead groups from one activity to the next in an orderly manner
- Recognize your limits and ask for help if needed
- Attend training sessions and meetings, as required
- Assist in the planning and delivery of Sports Weekend (July 29-31) and Skit Night (Aug 11)
- Attend introductory parent meeting on Sunday, July 2nd at 4:00 pm
- Other duties as assigned

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Shuniah, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
