**Position Overview**
This position is responsible for providing disability and leave management services for medical and non-medical accommodation requests - Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB), Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB) claims, Short-term Disability (STD) claims, and Long-term disability (LTD) claims with a focus on early and safe return to work. The role will also require a review provincial and state Health and Safety guidelines and strategic efforts to implement and train as needed.
**Responsibilities**
- Create and implement safety plans while ensuring that they are being followed daily
- Provide recommendations for improving safety in the workplace
- Investigate accidents that occur onsite and identify possible causes of the accident
- Maintain documentation of the company's safety procedures, accidents and related events
- Collaborate with managers to monitor compliance and identify safety issues
- Training and compliance auditing of all provincial and state requirements
- Acts as a representative on Joint Health and Safety Committee
- Oversees the creation and maintenance of JHSC meetings at field level (by region/line of business)
- Oversees the annual nomination process of Health and Safety Representatives at the field level
- Oversees annual First Aid Certification Training at the field level
- Maintains annual strategic plans and policies for North American corporate and field health and safety programs
- In partnership with HR and Operations representatives, assists with incident and accident investigations, prevention, and analysis; develops, recommends, and deploys hazard recognition, safety protocols, and procedures
- Identify gaps withing our existing programs and drive health ad safety compliance
- Research Health and Safety changes, updates or new legislations across North America.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Workplace Injury processing;
- Assess, process, and adjudicate occupational injury leave claims with WCB/WSIB/CNESST
- Assist with designing, offering, and executing return to work programs for employees returning from occupational injury or illness
- Schedule and attend return to work meetings and hearings via phone or in-person as required
- Co-manage personal extended leave of absence tracking and return to work activities

**Job Requirements**
- Bilingual in French and or Spanish is an asset but not required
- 2-5 years of progressive experience related to employee and workplace health and safety (costing, compliance, risk mitigation, accident investigation, return to work, training)
- Post-Secondary education in Human Resources, Occupational Health, and Safety, designation preferred or equivalent work experience
- Experience with workplace investigations, inspections, and job hazard analysis
- Understanding of current provincial legislation, Codes of Practice, Bulletins, and other safe work practice requirements and recommendations.
- Strong project management skills Experience in writing and implementing specific work procedures and conducting customized training programs
- Experience in a consulting/advisory role to a Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to anticipate, recognize and respond to problem situations
- Demonstrated tact and diplomacy skills and the ability to handle confidential matters with discretion
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, especially strong writing skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Valid driver's license, with an acceptable driving record and use of a reliable vehicle
