London, Canada The Salvation Army Full time

The Community and Family Services Worker works closely with other local ministry unit personnel to form an interdisciplinary team to work with families from a holistic perspective, assisting individuals and families who are seeking assistance from The Salvation Army. This position provides support to the basic needs program and other programs provided by Community and Family Services.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**General**
- Complete all duties in accordance with the Standards and Policies and Procedures of The Salvation Army London Community and Family Services.
- As required and as applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to the supervisor.
- Assist in the training, orientation and direction of volunteers and students.
- Participate in regular staff meetings to review operational effectiveness, changes in policies and procedures, and in-service training.
- In collaboration with other CFS team members, in particular the Lead Community and Family Services Worker, assist with the receiving and sorting of donations, ensuring goods are distributed appropriately and donation records are completed accurately.

**Client Services**
- In collaboration with team members, in particular the Lead Community and Family Services Worker, create a welcoming and respectful experience for people accessing Community and Family Services.
- Through empathetic care and with a non-judgmental approach provides intake services, client assessment, and relevant emergency assistance (including food, clothing and household needs as available)
- Aid and support clients with the selection of food and other resources offered by Community and Family Services.
- Provide information and referrals to other social service resources available in the community, advocating on individual/families behalf as needed.
- Taking direction from the Lead Community and Family Services Worker, ensure all program areas are neat and tidy; food bank and other storage shelves are regularly organized and properly restocked with items available for distribution and ensuring perishable food is used prior to the expiry date. Report any shortages to the Lead Community and Family Services Worker or designate.
- Actively promote Community and Family Services and Corps programs to people accessing our services.
- Work closely with other local ministry unit personnel to form an interdisciplinary team to work with families from a holistic perspective, including referrals for pastoral assistance.
- Assist with community ministries programs and aid in ensuring that ministry objectives are consistently accomplished.
- May network with referral agencies and/or other community sources of assistance, as required.
- Participation at community meetings/client referrals as directed by supervisor.
- Assist in coordinating seasonal activities provided by the Community and Family Services i.e. registration for Christmas Hampers; assist other Community and Family Services staff as required.

**Administration**
- Assist in the development and presentation of promotional and informational materials.
- Research and maintain information list of services provided by external agencies.
- Network with Salvation Army, government, and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefits of clients and program.
- Gather information and posters on community resources and events and maintain information displays.
- Maximize utilization of all computerized management programs (i.e., Link2Feed)
- Maintain client files/ database/excel spreadsheets; ensure information entered into the database is accurate and complete.
- Assist in the accurate collection and compilation of data in Lnk2Feed and statistics; the preparation and distribution of statistical and operational reports as required.

**Communication**
- Answer and respond to telephone calls, providing referrals to other resources or scheduling appointments as required.
- Provide information and referrals to other social service resources available in the community, advocating on their behalf as needed.
- Participate in community projects and events.

**Health** and Safety**
- Adhere to all Health and Safety Standards and the specific requirements regarding COVID-19 as per the local Health Unit.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of the ministry unit by maintaining cleanliness and food safety etc.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Responsible to use personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by the employer.
- Responsible to report workplace hazards and dangers and report workplace injuries.
- Responsible to work in a manner as required by the employer and use the prescribed safety equipment.

Perform other duties as required.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:
**Normal work schedule**: The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule as per operational requirements.
