**About the role**

Reporting to the Vice President Finance, Global Technology & Expenses, the Assistant Vice President will drive the expense management practice and framework across the Sun Life enterprise, including enhanced focus on expense discipline and productivity. The scope of this role is broad as it encompasses quarterly reporting and annual planning of consolidated operating expenses, commissions, and interest across the enterprise, while managing the Centre of Excellence Controllership and Reporting functions in support of Digital Business & Technology Solutions and Corporate areas.

The Assistant Vice President will be a highly motivated leader who will partner across Sun Life business segments and cross functionally to optimize the expense management process, delivering value added insights to Finance and Business leaders. This role will manage a team of 2 Directors and their supporting team of finance managers and analysts.

**What you'll be doing**
- Manage quarterly IFRS 17 expense reporting process, consolidating results across the business to streamline key themes and provide a cohesive expense management story for external audiences against annual targets
- Drive expense consolidation process for Business and Strategic Plan cycles across the enterprise highlighting key trends, investments, and any gaps
- Automate reporting processes and eliminate manual adjustments to shorten expense reporting cycle duration
- Consolidate and report headcount movements for planning and reporting cycles, including external disclosures
- Manage planning and reporting cycles for Defined Benefit Pension, Long Term Incentives including Total Share Returns trending, and Annual Incentive Plan
- Deliver Board and regulatory expense segmentations as required
- Drive the consolidation process for operating expenses, commissions, interest as part of the annual Business Plan and Strategic Plan cycles across the enterprise, highlight key trends including investments in technology and other key initiatives, expense gap, and productivity measures

**What you'll need to succeed**
- Demonstrate leadership in optimizing reporting and consolidation processes
- Flexibility in managing changing priorities and evolving timelines for the team
- Ability to problem solve in partnership with multiple stakeholders across various functions and business segments
- Experience operating in a multi currency environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, influencing and team work activity
- Attention to detail at multiple layers in an expense management framework
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office
- Finance and accounting designation (CPA, etc) with 10+ years of Insurance and/or Financial Services industry experience
