Tourism and Sport - one of the Government of Alberta’s newest and most exciting ministries We lead the development, sustainability and growth of Alberta’s visitor economy. We also lead the growth of Alberta’s non-profit sport system as well as the promotion of safe and welcoming environments for sport, physical activity and recreation.

The Sport, Tourism and Recreation (STAR) Division leads programming for the department. The Division is comprised of the Assistant Deputy Minister's office; the Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation (SPAR) Branch; and the Tourism Policy and Strategy Branch. The STAR Division collaborates with many Government of Alberta Ministries and with a broad range of tourism, sport, physical activity and recreation stakeholders. In modeling the Alberta Public Service Values, the Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Policy Analyst has an essential role in collaborating with the SPAR branch and division team, as well as other ministries and stakeholders to obtain achieve organizational goals.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director, Strategy and Policy, this position provides leadership and expertise in issues identification, policy analysis, and strategic advice pertaining to sport, physical activity, and recreation in the province. The SPAR Policy Analyst leads various projects including the planning, development, delivery, evaluation, and implementation of initiatives targeted at supporting government and pan-Canadian policy priorities. Responsibilities also include research, performance measurement, reporting, and providing recommendations to management. The SPAR Policy Analyst works in close collaboration with internal stakeholders, other government departments, other levels of government, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

As the SPAR Policy Analyst, you will use your previous education and experience to provide expertise and advice pertaining to sport, physical activity and recreation policy and standards for the Province of Alberta to internal and external stakeholders. This will be done by conducting research and analysis, identifying issues and trends, providing input into policy development, and being an active committee member.

**Research and Analysis**: to improve sport, physical activity, and recreation policy alignment across the ministry, the greater Government of Alberta, and across Canada you will complete cross-jurisdictional research, provide evidence based analysis, and summarize your findings into professional documentations for review by senior management.

**Identifying Issues and Trends**: staying up to date on what is happening in the sector, you will utilize your research and analysis skills to identify emerging policy issues and consider system implications in terms of policy development and the impact on both internal and external stakeholders.

**Policy Development**: you will provide input, recommendations, and advice on policy related to physical activity within the Government of Alberta.

**Facilitate/Support Collaboration**: working with cross-ministry partners, other jurisdictions, and orders of government you will act as an advisor and/or the ministry lead for assigned sport, physical activity, and recreation initiatives (including pan-Canadian committees).
