A perfect fit is a **Langley local** that is an **ULTRA ORGANIZED, BUBBLY, ENTHUSIASTIC MATURE PERSON** who loves **bringing out the best in people** and uniting the community through music, crafts, exercise, and engaging discussions (e.g., book club, TED Talks).**Commute time**: Must be 20 minutes or less. Being a part of our surrounding community is important.

**Direct Supervisors**: General Manager (Anita Wormald) & Assistant Manager (Elsie Bosma)

**Position Summary**:

- This is a **permanent, full-time position**. Shifts will include **regular weekend and evening events** **along with weekdays**, totaling five 8-hour shifts weekly.
- The Activity Coordinator plans, implements, and evaluates events & wellness programs with the focus of reigniting passion in our community of elders.
- This position's **key requirements** are positive, discerning **PEOPLE SKILLS**, relationship-building desire, professional diplomacy, exceptional **DECORATOR**, especially seasonal décor creativity, and over-the-top exceptional, **organizational & computer graphic **experience & talents.
- Your fun-filled mandate is to **value** resident’s request and **meet** with the appropriate members of the **leadership team regularly **to review and access before publicly scheduling new events.
- Are you a **CHARISTMATIC MOTIVATOR** for your PART-TIME EVENT TEAM, gather & inspire VOLUNTEERS (family members & from the community), as well as the entertainers and vendors that you would be scheduling well in advance of events? That’s vital in this role too.
- **COLLABORATING WITH OTHERS **on the inter-departmental leadership team and collaborative events fosters synergy, emotional support, and a fun vibe for residents and staff, making Avalon Gardens a safe, fun place to live and work. Also, events may affect other department's staff & planned events, so the utmost cooperation & courtesy is required.

**Key Responsibilities**:
FOR THE RESIDENTS

**Clubs**
- Inspiring & facilitating resident-run clubs
- Ensure club meetings are scheduled in the weekly activity calendar.
- Continue to develop & rotate activities based on resident interest.

**Activities**
- Ensure residents are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of socially, physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally stimulating activities each week.
- Bi-monthly musical entertainment is planned well in advance, creating a varied rotation of many musicians. These are the most well-attended events to date.
- Plan, prepare, promote, lead or delegate, clean up, & document the debrief to find ways for more improvements.
- Reoccurring weekly along with special events with the help of the Recreation Assistant(s) & volunteers.
- Celebrate seasonal events in a big way. Responsible for rallying excitement amongst the staff, which adds lots of smiles for the Avalon community.
- **Fall & Spring Craft Fair Event ** o Organization skills are essential for this semi-annual event. With efficient pre-planning and coordinating with Avalon’s Instagram coordinator, it becomes a business boost for the artisans and a great opportunity for resident volunteers.
- **Newsletter ** o Format & proof monthly Newsletter o Distribute monthly newsletter.
- **Weekly Activities calendar and menu ** o Create weekly Activities Calendar and menu for distribution for residents. o Distribute weekly Activities Calendar and menu.
- **Library ** coordination with the Fraser Valley Library Outreach program.
- **Bus trips ** o Organize bus trips activities. o Orientate & liaison with the bus driver. o Schedule volunteer companions.

FOR STAFF
- Plan & execute staff events: o the staff parties. o social mixers

FOR THE BUILDING
- Facilitate care and maintenance of indoor & outdoor fish tank with the Maintenance Dept.
- Maintain the organization of recreation storage units, keeping account of the Recreation inventory.
- Changing flower arrangements in the elevator’s lobbies, decorating the dining room, changing table settings for the dining room, supplying themed costumes for dining room staff, decorating the lobby, decorating the bulletin board

FOR MARKETING
- Collaborate with Marketing on larger events (craft fairs) & charitable fundraising campaigns
- Ensure photo of events are taken for social media & newspaper purposes

FOR HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT
- Balance & plan the Recreation Department's budget
- Recreation Survey of Residents o Establish some measurement tool of resident satisfaction with recreation survey.

**Qualifications**
- 2-5 years computer graphic experience (e.g., Publisher &/or Adobe)
