Sun Life is looking for someone to join our climate team to support the establishment of our scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions inventory and reporting in close collaboration with our Director and Manager of Scope 3 Emissions.

**The team**

Our climate team acts as a central resource across the business, managing the development of emissions reductions targets and roadmap implementation in collaboration with each business, monitoring performance against targets, and delivering on enterprise-wide emissions reporting. The team leads the work to embed climate best practices into our business, driving positive impact. Supporting the team’s efforts is a network of sustainability champions from different business groups and regions in which we operate.

**What will you do?**
- Work across the climate change team to enhance the organization’s scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions inventory by:

- Assessing data quality of currently reported scope 3 emissions categories
- Understanding emerging emissions reporting requirements from regulatory agencies along with those from ESG standard-setting bodies
- Developing organized workbooks for scope 3 emissions quantification
- Researching databases and other sources of emissions and emission factors data
- Driving process improvements and automation of data collection and computation
- Support the ongoing management and continuous improvement of our scope 3 emissions inventory by:

- Supporting annual emissions reporting and disclosures, including through annual assurance process
- Helping embed climate-related metrics and targets into performance management frameworks within each business and function to help drive delivery against plan
- Continuously refresh the scope 3 emissions inventory to reflect the latest business portfolio and activities over time
- Create materials to support internal and external communications of climate performance information
- Manage and support various other climate-related initiatives as needed

**What do you need to succeed?**
- Knowledge of the climate change discipline, particularly GHG inventories, reporting, and disclosures
- Understanding of greenhouse gas emissions reporting and assurance processes, direct working experience in carbon or financial accounting is considered a plus
- Familiarity with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF), and other relevant standards for carbon accounting and reporting
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; detail and numbers oriented
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data workbook creation
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Working experience in a sustainability-related or financial services role is not necessary but considered an asset
