Job Requirements

We are actively looking for a dynamic individual to join the Chubb Legal and Compliance team in this unique role to provide legal guidance for Chubb Life Insurance Company of America and Combined Insurance.

**KEY OBJECTIVE**:
The Counsel role is responsible for providing a wide range of high-quality legal services to Chubb Life Insurance Company of Canada and Combined Insurance. The position will provide business development support and handle legal matters related to business transactions, new product and marketing initiatives, product offerings, new or emerging areas of risks, and compliance with federal and provincial laws. The position reports to the VP, Managing Counsel and is located in Toronto.

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Counsel and communicate effectively with internal business clients regarding a wide range of legal matters.
- Collaborate with compliance and product development to provide legal advice and counsel with respect to accident, sickness and life insurance products.
- Perform legal research and provide advice on a variety of regulatory and compliance issues regarding the companies’ products and distribution.
- Collaborate with Chubb government affairs colleagues and industry groups to evaluate new laws and industry trends that may impact the companies.
- Review, draft and negotiate a variety of agreements (e.g., producer, marketing, claims, vendor, and data privacy/non-disclosure agreements).
- Provide legal support to the business and regulatory teams in coordinating, researching, and responding to insurance regulators with respect to reports and complaints.
- Provide legal guidance with respect to claims and customer support.
- Provide counsel to the business in litigation matters in coordination with inhouse litigation counsel and outside counsel.
- Periodic travel to attend meetings with business and legal teams, as needed.

Work Experience

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- LLB / Juris Doctorate
- Minimum of 2 years of prior legal experience.
- Knowledge and previous experience in the legal and regulatory environment related to insurance companies, ideally with experience in accident, sickness, and life insurance.
- Strong business acumen and strategic thinker, ability to provide consultation that is compliant while helping to meet business goals.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks, handle high volume of matters, and manage business needs/priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong influence skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Enthusiasm for working in a team-oriented, dynamic environment.
- Detail-oriented, organized, responsive and deadline-driven.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills.
- Bilingualism (English/French) an asset.
