Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS) is currently seeking a qualified Youth Worker for Relief shifts, to provide support for the supportive houses, Graham's Place and Shanoa's Place and create a safe environment for youth.

What We Do

YESS is a not-for-profit agency working with youth facing difficult realities. We provide shelter, residential and day programming to youth who access our services. Based in Edmonton, YESS provides immediate and low-barrier 24/7 shelter, a drop-in resource centre, temporary supportive housing, temporary independent cohort housing, and individualized wrap-around supports for young people aged 15 - 24.

We work collaboratively within a network of care focused on the prevention of youth homelessness by providing youth with the necessary supports to stabilize their housing, improve their wellbeing, build life skills, connect with community, and avoid re-entry into homelessness.

What You Will Do

We are seeking a qualified youth worker to provide coverage for our regular staff or work alongside, as required, during days, evenings, overnights and weekends. Shifts could be a combination of 'overnight-awake' and 'sleep'. It is a requirement that Relief/Casual staff work at least 24-hour shift per pay period (every 2 weeks).

**Location**:9310-82 Avenue and West-end, Edmonton, AB

Responsibilities include:

- Building healthy relationships with youth
- Assisting with intakes and crisis diversion
- Housekeeping duties
- Managing youth access to services: meals, showers, laundry, donations, etc.
- Working with youth to achieve their goals and transition out of homelessness
- Maintaining documentation records and entering information into a database
- Performing clerical duties to maintain youth support, youth goal setting and team communication.

- proven skills to support through a trauma informed scope

You will be qualified to provide a safe, clean, and secure environment for youth. You have a harm reduction mind set and can provide suicidal ideation intervention and safety planning. You also know how to build community support connections.

What You Bring
- Degree or Diploma in Child & Youth Care or related Human Services field
- A minimum two-years of experience in youth work or social work
- Knowledge of the values, beliefs, and practices of Aboriginal and other cultural and diverse groups
- Experience working in shelters or drop-in centers will be considered an asset
- CYCAA Child and Youth Care certification will be considered an asset

Prerequisites
- Training in first aid, and/or non-violent crisis intervention
- Training in suicide intervention and harm reduction
- Clear police clearance (CRIM) and a Child and Youth Intervention (CYIM) checks, both obtained within the last six months
- Valid driver’s license and driver’s abstract
- Basic computer skills
- Regardless of work location you will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved accommodation.
