Full or part time positions available. Monday - Friday 1:00pm-8:00pm, Saturday and Sunday 1:00pm-4:00pm

Position Summary:


The Housing Support Relief Worker provides support within the Iskwewak Iskotew Nihkotawan (Women's Fire Lodge), a 20-unit apartment building in Edmonton.


The successful applicant will play a key role in advocating for women who are facing barriers when accessing services or supports.

The Housing Support Relief Worker will connect with service providers such as government or institution representatives with them or on their behalf.


Reporting to the Housing Supervisor, key responsibilities include:

  • Maintain collaborative relationships with community members, Indigenous and other partner agencies.
  • Promote forwardlooking goalsetting processes to enhance the personal development of Indigenous women.
  • Ensure case management notes and files are kept in good order.
  • Coordinate/Assist with workshops and social events for tenants.
  • Work with other team members to ensure important organizational milestones are met.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in health, education, social work, or appropriate combination of relevant education and work experience.
  • Demonstrate experience and understanding of wholistic health and wellbeing.
  • Highly motivated individual with the ability to work with mínimal supervision.
  • Strong awareness of issues affecting Indigenous women and awareness of available community resources.
  • Minimum twoyears of project management experience, and minimum fiveyears working in an office in a relevant role.

Requirements:

  • Citizenship: Canadian citizen or permanent resident (eligible to work in Canada)
  • Language:Fluency in English is essential. Bilingualism in an Indigenous language is a strong asset.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Reliable form of transportation.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge and commitment to the principles and values that guide the work of Esquao, the Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women.
  • Basic understanding of Indigenous culture and protocol.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with traumainformed policies.
  • Knowledge of the First Nation, Metis, and Inuit community in Alberta.
  • Experience working with Indigenous women rebuilding their lives.
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to lift materials and display up to 30 lbs.
