Sdv - Functional Safety Specialist

As a member of the Software Safety team, the Functional Safety Specialist leads and supports safety initiatives in all phases of software development (requirements, design, implementation, verification, and validation) for software that is core to our Automated Driving and Active Safety systems. You will be a key interface between the Software Development, Software Safety and System Safety teams, providing oversight and guidance to develop high quality and safe software solutions for vehicles today and tomorrow.
**Core Responsibilities**
- Lead or participate in software safety strategy discussions, interfacing with GM teams globally
Ensure adherence to GM safety and software development processes
- Plan and coordinate software safety collaboration with Technical Project Managers, Software Product Owners, Software Development and Software Validation teams
- Train and coach the software teams by providingsafety process knowledge
- Perform confirmation reviews of software safety relevant work products
- Escalate any unresolved safety-related issues and confirm that the resolution process has been followed
- Lead or contribute to initiatives towards the continuous improvement of the safety and software development processes
- Align software safety activities with suppliers
- Interface with corporate and industry experts to stay current in safety processes, methods, and tools
**Required Skills and Experience**
- A minimum of 3 years embedded systems development experience in safety-critical domains (automotive, aerospace, medical, nuclear)
- Demonstrated performance in a position requiring excellent understanding of embedded software implementation details as well as the larger systems picture
- Experience with ISO 26262 or other functional safety standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 62304 or DO-178B/C
- Full software development lifecycle experience (software requirements, design, coding, verification)
- Proficiency in C/C++ embedded programming and MATLAB Simulink
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment, interfacing with GM engineers globally
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail

**Preferred Skills and Experience**
- Experience performing software safety process tailoring, software project management or software quality assurance activities
- Knowledge of software architecture and design patterns
- Experience in reviewing and/or developing software requirements from system-level requirements
- Familiarity with automotive systems and with active safety and automated driving systems in particular
- Familiarity or experience with AUTOSAR architecture and Embedded RTOS
- Knowledge of distributed systems development and inter-ECU communication protocols
- Familiarity with software hazard analysis and risk assessments, both at the software architecture/design and implementation levels
- Familiarity with software safety analyses methods such as FTA
- Experience working in Agile development teams
- Ability to travel to the US
- Have a valid Canadian driver's license
**Minimum Education Required**
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Software, Computer, Control, Mechatronics) or Computer Science
- Advanced degrees preferred
