We are looking for a team-oriented, technology-proficient professional to join our team as a Research Scientist for a 2-year contract, with an opportunity for an extension pending funding. The position will be located at the Centre for Ocean Venture and Entrepreneurship (COVE) in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

The Centre for Marine Applied Research (CMAR) is an independent division of Perennia that facilitates science-based innovation and advancement of Nova Scotia’s marine coastal resources. Reporting to CMAR’s Director, the Research Scientist will be responsible for working closely with CMAR staff and partners on a variety of time-sensitive, cross discipline research projects. Areas of focus may encompass coastal marine environments, climate change, coastal ecology, and the sustainable development of aquaculture and fisheries. Your primary responsibilities include leading or support co-author research for peer reviewed publications and public facing documents, as required. Working closely with government, non-governmental organizations, and industry partners, you will assist in the provision of data and analyses to facilitate decision making in support of sustainable coastal activities.

**Principal Responsibilities**:
The Research Scientist’s key tasks and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

- Writing peer-reviewed articles and public-facing technical reports
- Writing extensive literature reviews to support ‘white paper’ development
- Liaising with clients, stakeholders, and policy makers to ensure access to information
- Attend partner meetings, conferences, and workshops to present data and research results
- Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis in R
- Data acquisition and management
- A PhD in aquaculture, marine biology, oceanography, fisheries, or a related field, with strong writing and technical editing skills and a minimum of two (2) first author primary publications. Post-doc experience is considered an asset.
- A proven record of multi-disciplinary research
- Ability to prioritize in a busy deadline driven environment
- Commitment to professionalism and hyper confidentiality
- Very high attention to detail and commitment to ensuring work is accurate
- Exceptional organizational skills, and ability and attitude to successfully work in a collaborative environment
- Self motivated and a strong work ethic with a focus in client service (internally and externally)

Salary range is commensurate with experience.
