**Job Description**:

Reporting to the Director Indigenous Heath & Engagement, and working closely with the Alliance Project Team (including contractors and consultants), and the CDH Site Operations Leaders, the Arts Advisory Leader/Curator is accountable for leading the Art Advisory Council to meet the requirements of the Project Alliance Agreement in respect to Appendix 2J Art. The Arts Advisory Leader/Curator is also accountable for identifying, acquiring and preserving records and artifacts of enduring value to the Cowichan District Hospital and making these records and artifacts accessible to hospital personnel and the public.

Additionally, the Arts Advisory Leader/Curator develops, organizes and manages mission legacy and culture at the Cowichan District Hospital, as well as plans for the transition to the new Cowichan District Hospital within the overall new CDH Operational Readiness Plan. Functions include establishing a process and resources to manage existing art collections; following the established process of managing existing archival collections; developing and documenting the overall approach for decolonization of art selection (art, archives and artifacts) for display in the new CDH per aesthetic and Technical Specification requirements; preparing for the transfer of art items anticipated to be released from clinical and non-clinical spaces across the current CDH site as programs and departments prepare to move to the new CDH; and processing, maintaining and ensuring appropriate storage for Art Collection (and archival collections).

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in fine art, education archiving, graphic design, or similar discipline sufficient to successfully perform essential functions of the role. Seven (7) years' recent, related experience in a creative/artistic field, including experience in art gallery/exhibit and team management in a creative environment.

**Skills And Abilities**:

- Knowledge of principles and techniques pertinent to the acquisition, classification, storing, transportation, preservation and exhibition of art objects.
- Knowledge of techniques related to archival appraisal, selection, preservation, arrangement and description.
- Knowledge of current archival standards, principles, and practices, including the Rules for Archival Description (RAD) as well as experience arranging and describing archival records according to RAD.
- Knowledge of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Copyright Act, principles of Ownership, Control, Access and Possession, and other legislation, policies and procedures related to collection, use and disclosure of information.
- Proven ability to work with Microsoft Suite software and experience working with archival systems to create and maintain art and archival systems.
- Demonstrated competency in cultural safety & humility; experience working with Indigenous communities.
- Ability to take initiative and prioritize activities with strong attention to detail
- Ability to supervise and effectively oversee volunteer resources.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Efficient time management skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge in working with textual and graphic materials as well as ability to work with AV material and artifacts.
- Demonstrated knowledge of information resources and the ability to critically evaluate and filter information.
- Ability to initiate and administer project.
