The South Vancouver Island Adoption Team is a close and experienced group of five Adoption Workers and one Team Leader who are passionate and committed to achieving permanency for children and youth in care. Serving the South Island, from Victoria, to Chemainus and the southern Gulf Islands, the team collaborates provincially with guardianship workers to best match children with prospective adoptive parents, using a trauma informed and child centered approach. This dedicated team is honoured to make a lasting impact by supporting legal permanence, assessing prospective adoptive families, and supporting adoption placements.
**The Role**
As an Adoption Worker, you will play a key part in assessing and educating adoptive families who want to help support and raise children from foster care as well as supporting birth families and adoptive families to create a future rooted in connection and care. You will work closely with the adoptive family, children, guardianship worker, resource worker and frontline child protection teams. Your work has a significant impact, helping children achieve legal permanence and supporting the growth of families. **Education and Experience Requirements**
Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements
1. Preferred Credentials:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
2. Expanded Credentials:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor’s Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
- PLUS, a minimum of one year of related OR job-specific work experience. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered. NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA)
- Currently holds or immediately eligible to obtain C4 Delegation within 6 months under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
- One (1) year or more of experience working with and planning for children and youth in care.
- One (1) year or more of adoption experience.
- Applicants who have or immediately eligible for AD1 or AD2 delegation.
- Applicants who have completed the MCFD Permanency training and/or the two week Adoption Delegation Training.
- Applicants with SAFE (Structured Analysis Family Evaluation) training and experience using the SAFE assessment tool. Applicants who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.Please note:
