Office Hours: Mon - Fri, 8 am - 4 pm

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

Event Hours: Some events require long days and weekends

Compensation: $23 per hour

**Description**:
Alberta Canola is seeking a Public Engagement & Promotion Assistant for the summer of 2023. This summer student position will assist the Public Engagement & Promotion Coordinator in Alberta Canola’s efforts to create awareness about agriculture and canola with consumers, educators, and students. The primary function of this role is to assist with informing the general public, educators, and students, about the benefits of canola, where consumers get their food, and how it’s safely and sustainably produced.

**Responsibilities include**:

- Assist the Public Engagement and Promotions Coordinator and act as a project lead for Calgary Stampede 2023.
- Assist with creating opportunities for teachers, students, and the public to make a connection between their food, canola, and crop production.
- Support Alberta Canola’s agriculture education initiatives.
- Assist with event planning, managing educational resources, and creating social media content.
- Work with the Public Engagement & Promotion Coordinator and communications staff to research and develop content that include science-based topics in agriculture and nutrition.

**Qualifications**:
Must be enrolled in an Education program, or a combined specialty in Nutrition, Human Ecology, Agriculture, or Public Relations with a specialty in Education (other degree paths may be considered).
- A valid and current driver's licence.
- Knowledge of best-based teaching methods, teaching pedagogy, and experience working with Alberta-based curriculum.
- A high standard of written and oral communication skills.
- A passionate interest in agriculture and food.
- Ability to work with team members or independently.
- Dynamic social and interpersonal skills including positive attitude, patience, flexibility, professionalism, diplomacy, and networking.
- A strong work ethic and the ability to problem solve.

This is a temporary summer position commencing from May - August 2023. Based at Alberta Canola's office in Edmonton, additional travel will be required.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 4 months

**Salary**: From $23.00 per hour

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Edmonton, AB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
