**REPORTS TO**: Executive Director of Environment & Sustainable Development
**START DATE**: September 2023
**STATUS** 1 **-** fulltime permanent (35-hours per week)
- Malahat Nation is seeking a dedicated and hard-working Sustainable Development Analyst (SDA) with experience working with Indigenous communities in economic development to join our Environment and Sustainable Development team Malahat Nation represents approximately 350+ members with two reserve lands located on the western shore of Saanich Inlet, south of the village of Mill Bay, about 40- kilometres north of Victoria, British Columbia. Malahat Nation has been dedicated to protecting and understanding the local marine environments since time immemorial and must be a part of building the understanding required to manage these valuable resources effectively. **PURPOSE**:Reporting to the Executive Director of Environment and Sustainable Development, the Sustainable Development Analyst (SDA), in collaboration with the Malahat Nation Government and Malahat Nation businesses, help develop an economic development strategy. This work will include planning to attract new businesses to Malahat land and the growth of existing businesses located on Malahat Nation Lands. This role will also include participation in existing development projects including but not limited to Malahat Skywalk, Malahat Film Studios, Malahat Business Park and other development initiatives. _This position is a fulltime permanent position, based in the office, with possibility_ of a hybrid working arrangement. Occasional travel may be required._

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Support the Executive Director of Environment and Sustainable Development, Chief and Council, and the boards of Malahat Nation companies;
- Information to regularly be provided to Chief and Council and corporate boards includes; providing reports and presentations regarding training, business, and economic development activities at meetings, and recommend plans, objectives and strategic opportunities for future consideration.
- Use a variety of qualitative and quantitative methods to perform continuous assessment of economic development needs, including maintaining an inventory of existing businesses, sector activities and current human resources (Labor force) in the community.
- Responsible for developing and implementing business plans for current and future Malahat Nation businesses and as such experience in doing such work will be highly valued.
- Ensure that Malahat Nation economic development initiatives and opportunities are communicated to key stakeholders.
- Maintain a sound administrative and organizational system, develop budgets and cash flow projections, use business planning software, and create presentations for public speaking opportunities.
- In cooperation with the Director of Finance, support the E.D of Infrastructure & Sustainable Development with the financial and human resource management aspects of the Sustainable Development in alignment with Financial Administrative Law (FAL) and Malahat Nation law and policy;
- Develop and track accomplishments related to an ongoing work plan that will guide the work in Malahat Nation.
- Contribute to the growth of economic sustainability of individual and businesses by increasing the potential and credibility of the individuals and businesses within Malahat Nation and advocating potential partnerships for economic development initiatives on the work plan.
- Must become familiar with background materials and information relating to Malahat Nation and the political processes.
- Must demonstrate a non-political approach to communicate and foster relationships with politicians, Elders and community members.
- Continuously develop and maintain knowledge required to-do the job by understanding, embracing, and contributing to the community’s economic development plan.
- To ensure effective planning, close collaboration with other Malahat Nation departments will be required.
- Work collaboratively with the Education Employment and Training (EET) Coordinator to ensure the growth, development and employment of Malahat Nation members is maximized on all economic development ventures.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:

- Criminal Record Check including vulnerable sector search prior to employment required
- Class 5 BC Driver License with Driver Abstract is required
- Effective December 3, 2021 full vaccination against COVID-19 is required to be eligible for employment at Malahat Nation. All individuals must show Proof of Vaccination as a mandatory condition of their employment
