Arena and Facility Attendant, Seasonal

**Position Description**
**Accountabilties**
- Perform a wide range of operational, maintenance, administrative and construction activities within the Recreation Services division of Community Services department, with occasional assistance to other departments
- Provide excellent customer service, professional and effective communication with the public as a representative of the City and facility - daily interaction with facility users, able to resolve customer problems with positive solutions and outcomes
- Maintain arena ice conditions, operate ice resurfacer, and complete ice maintenance and repair duties
- Maintain pool water conditions, filtration systems, and perform pool maintenance duties such as vacuuming and backwashing the pool. Ensure safe pool water quality and chemistry is maintained, follow proper disinfection protocols for pool fouling occurrences, and regularly record conditions of pool equipment and water chemistry
- Perform general cleaning to maintain facility spaces in a safe and sanitary condition for day to day operation by sweeping, mopping, cleaning washrooms, change rooms, dressing rooms, window cleaning, snow shoveling and ice removal, garbage pick up, disinfecting, and replenishing supplies as needed
- Perform general maintenance duties in the overall facility such as painting, replacing light bulbs, and making minor repairs
- Respond to on-site emergencies in accordance with policies and procedures (eg. facility emergency response, medical emergencies, vandalism, incident and security reporting)
- Participate in special event operations and service delivery, including setting up and taking down of equipment, temporary seating, staging, installing and removing arena glass and ice surfaces, and providing basic AV support
- Assist with training, orientation, and guidance of part-time Operations Associates, including delegating and assigning job duties
- Maintain appropriate work records, including updating log books, incident and accidents reports, timesheets, duty sheets, and other reporting is completed as required
- Monitor and record compressor room readings
- Adhere to all relevant health and safety related policies, procedures, and standards
- Perform additional related duties as requested by Recreation Services operations
- May be required to participate on various City teams and initiatives
**Minimum Qualifications**
- Minimum Grade 12 diploma
- Minimum of six (6) months of related work experience within recreation facility operations required
- Previous experience working with pools an asset, including knowledge of pool operations (pump, filtration systems, pool chemistry and water quality monitoring)
- Previous experience operating an ice resurfacer an asset
- Must hold a valid First Aid with AED certification or be willing to obtain
- Successful completion of Certified Ice Technician (CIT), Certified Pool Operator (CPO), and ORFA Basic Refrigeration considered an asset
- TSSA Refrigeration Operator Class “B” Certifcate considered an asset
- Exceptional customer services skills with proven ability to deal cooperatively, efficiently and effectively with external and internal customers, the public, user groups, and other external agencies
- Knowledge and understanding of safe work practices, standards, and legislation (Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS) and able to use appropriate PPE
- Ability to work as an effective team member and contribute to a supportive team environment
- Excellent organization skills and the ability to act independently as required, exercising good judgment and safe and appropriate practices and procedures Able to lead and supervise other team members (part-time staff)
- Physically able to perform all activities in this area of work in a safe manner (i.e. lifting, climbing and working above ground level on ladders, scaffolds, upright lifts, walking for etended periods of time etc.)
- Valid MTO ‘G’ class driver’s licence in good standing with driver’s abstract acceptable to the City is required to perform the job
- A satisfactory police criminal record and judicial matters check will be required as a condition of hire
**Further Responsibilites**
Must hold or be willing to obtain the required supplementary training related to the Business Unit including, but not limited to: Recreation Facility Equipment Operations, Work Place Hazardous Materials Information systems (WHMIS), Propane Handling & Safety, Forklift & Boom Lift, Safe Work & Operating Procedures, Health & Safety Awareness, and other mandatory employee training set out by the Corporation from time to time. Employees will be responsible to ensure that their certificates and licenses are current and valid.

Arena and Facility Attendant Seasonal Rate - Job Class ‘C’ $26.72 per hour, plus applicable shift premium, in accordance with the terms of the CUPE collective agreement.
