**INDIGENOUS CHILDREN’S SERVICES WORKER**

**Full Time - Permanent**

The Sarnia-Lambton Children’s Aid Society works alongside families and communities to help children and youth be safer and live their lives well.

Children’s Services Workers provide ongoing support services to children and youth in care in accordance with the Child and Family Services Act, The Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis children, youth and families, Ministry Standards and Guidelines and our agency’s policies and procedures. They carry out the tasks and duties as outlined in the job descriptions specific to the Indigenous Team.

The positions require some evening work, the flexing of work hours, and may require occasional weekend work to respond to the needs of children, youth and families and the service requirements of the agency.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Provide ongoing support services to Indigenous children and youth in care in accordance with the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Ministry Standards and Guidelines and our agency’s policies and procedures;
- Attend /participate in conferences pertaining to children and youth assigned, in the Agency or with personnel in schools, court, hospital or other community agencies which may be involved on behalf of the child;
- Provide ongoing regular support to alternate caregivers (i.e. foster parents foster parents and formal customary caregivers) and develop with the caregivers a plan of service which will include specific objectives for the child and strategies to achieve the objectives (LAC implementation).

**Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills Required**:

- Post-Secondary college education in a related field is preferred including Indigenous Studies degree or Indigenous Studies diploma from a recognized Community College or University, Child & Youth Care Worker Diploma, Social Service Worker Diploma, and/or Bachelor of Arts in a Social Service related field with relevant experience considered;
- Working knowledge of the Child Protection Information Network (CPIN) is considered an asset;
- The ability to communicate effectively with children and youth in care, FNIM community representatives, care providers, colleagues and key collaterals where applicable;
- Previous work with the Indigenous community would be considered an asset
- Preference will be given to Indigenous persons, persons with extensive experience working with Indigenous communities, and/or lived experience within these communities;
- Knowledge of Indigenous history, people and communities and a demonstrated ability to engage with the communities would be considered an asset;
- A strong understanding of Indigenous culture, heritage and traditions and a commitment to developing the highest quality culturally-appropriate service possible for the Indigenous families that we serve would be considered an asset;
- Demonstrated computer proficiency related to case documentation requirements;
- Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise reports and assessments and to maintain accurate records in a timely manner that fulfills Ministry/agency standards, policies and/or procedures
