Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Manager

The Sarnia-Lambton Children’s Aid Society (SLCAS) is a trusted ally to families, communities & cultures in creating safe, nurturing environments for children and youth to grow and succeed.

1. The Society is seeking an Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity Manager to lead the development and implementation of the equity, diversity and inclusion strategy at Sarnia-Lambton Children’s Aid Society (SLCAS). The EDI Manager will assist the organization to grow and build its equity, diversity and inclusion programs, services and community outreach. Working in partnership with the Management team, the EDI Manager acts as a champion and capacity builder to support the development and implementation of the agency’s equity, diversity and inclusion strategy to move theories into practice for all staff.

2. The major components of the position include:
(a) **Accountable to**: the incumbent will report to the Executive Director.

(b) **Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to**:

- Support the agency in creating a safe and inclusive environment for staff, volunteers and resource parents who are members of equity seeking groups. This will include working collaboratively with Human Resources on various issues, including policy review and issues of harassment, discrimination and microaggressions;
- Assist in developing and fostering community partnerships and collaboration to support equity, diversity and inclusion in the communities and with the families we serve
- Support the implementation of the agency’s strategic plan in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion as well as the agency’s Equity Plan;
- Measure, track, and analyze the effectiveness of EDI strategies using key performance indicators and metrics;
- Collaborate with Human Resources and Quality Assurance departments to collect, analyze and disseminate data that provides information useful to support and enhance equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives, program activities and outcomes;
- Assist in the development of policies, procedures, practices, and resources designed to improve the quality of experiences for all families engaged with SLCAS;
- Provide recommendations and help develop a plan to increase staff/resource parent/volunteer knowledge in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion

(c) **Qualifications, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other competencies required**:

- Minimum of a B.A. preferred plus previous child welfare experience;
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in a leadership role in a Child Welfare organization;
- Previous experience managing diversity-related initiatives and/or other educational and personal qualifications combined with experience that constitutes adequate and suitable preparation for the position;
- Demonstrated knowledge of the agency’s policies and procedures; Ministry Standards, regulations and guidelines; An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis Children, Youth and Families; the Child Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA); and best practices related to child welfare;
- Strong knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation’s _Calls to Action_, the _OACAS Reconciliation and Equity Framework_, the _One Vision Once Voice Practice Framework_ for Ontario’s child welfare, and the _Pride at Work: Visibility and Experiences of 2SLGBTQ+ Staff in Ontario’s Child Welfare Sector_ report;
- Theoretical knowledge and understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, including relevant legislation (eg: _Ontario Human Rights Code, AODA_), and multiple equity frameworks (eg: anti-oppression, anti-black racism, anti-racism, anti-colonialism);
- Self-identify with lived experience as a member of one or more equity seeking groups and/or identify as Indigenous, Black, Person of Colour, or 2SLGBTQ+;
- Demonstrated knowledge regarding Indigenous peoples in Canada or positive experience working with Indigenous populations would be an asset;
- Intersectional knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion and the intersecting issues that impact marginalized identities, including knowledge from lived experience.
