Job Summary

Works under broad direction of the Director, Research and Assistant Director, Strategic Initiatives to provide management for operationalizing strategic plan initiatives and objectives relating to the research portfolio of UBC Health. This post is responsible for leading action plans on interdisciplinary research initiatives in alignment with the UBC Health Strategic Plan, Better Health Together (2021-2026). Working closely with senior administration within the Office of the Vice-President, Health and across the University (e.g. UBC Health Executive, UBC Health Council, UBC Health Directors and committees, faculty members, staff, etc.), this post is responsible for a variety of initiatives to efficiently and effectively expand the remit of the Office of the Vice-President, Health | UBC Health in interdisciplinary research. This position works with the Director, Research in conceptualizing, strategizing and implementing a collaborative planning approach in interdisciplinary research innovations across both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses of UBC and with external partners. This role will continue to evolve and the individual must be willing to respond to the given priorities of the day and be able to work cooperatively in a challenging and dynamic environment.

The Research Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, development, implementation and evaluation of interdisciplinary research initiatives across UBC Health coordinated through the Office of UBC Health. In support of the Director, Research, responsibilities include:

- Devise, plan and manage strategic initiatives related to interdisciplinary research as articulated in the UBC Health Strategic Plan.
- Identify project opportunities in the interdisciplinary research area, and oversee the launch and implementation of initiatives approved by the Senior Leadership Team of the Office of the Vice-President, Health (which includes the VPH, AVPH, Directors of Education and Research, Special Advisor on Health Systems, and other senior staff).
- Oversee project planning and implementation; provide solutions; manage, develop and execute identified goals, priorities and objectives related to research, from inception through completion in line with the strategic directives from the Director, Research.
- Foster relationships with key individuals and stakeholders to enhance collaborations and partnerships with the Office of the Vice-President, Health.
- Effectively liaise and develop supportive and collaborative partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders, including faculty members, department heads, and other partners internal and external to the University.
- Advise senior leadership, write business plans for new projects, identify project opportunities and oversee the launch of initiatives relating to the interdisciplinary research area.
- Advise and serve on relevant staff and faculty committees for the purpose of providing strategic input.
- Represent the Director, Research on committees and working groups as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

This position represents the Office of the Vice-President, Health as well as the University, and is required to exercise professional judgment, maturity, collegiality and initiative while undertaking all responsibilities and developing relationships and partnerships. Incorrect decisions or judgment will directly affect UBC's reputation with students, faculty, staff, and the broader community. Inappropriate actions, errors in performance or indiscretions in judgment can negatively impact UBC Health's working relationships and credibility with a range of critical internal and external partners, may result in legal action or negative public relations, incur inappropriate costs, and/or jeopardize the unit's reputation in the areas of collaborative health education, research and health systems.
