**Main Purpose & Function**

The One Water Planning Assistant provides research, design, communications, consultation and technical support to an inter-disciplinary team responsible for advancing the Rain City Strategy and implementing integrated water management planning at a watershed and project design scale. The role supports the City’s efforts to be a leader in clean water, green buildings, access to nature in the urban environment, fostering a green economy and building a resilient city in the face of a changing climate.

**Key Contacts and Reporting Relationships**

The position reports to the Senior Sewer and Drainage Engineer (CEII), and works with other staff in the branch as required.

**Specific Duties & Responsibilities**
- Prepares and conducts technical research, surveys, analysis on topics of moderate complexity;
- Provides graphics and mapping support;
- Manages data for the initiative, including collection, tracking, and reporting;
- Assists in the preparation of technical reports, council reports
- Organizes meetings and events, support public engagement and stakeholder processes, participates in and minute public events and staff meetings;
- Prepares communication and presentation materials;
- Maintains initiative web pages and contact lists;
- Responds to public inquiries;
- Other duties/responsibilities as assigned

**Qualifications**

Education and Experience:

- Completion of the twelfth school grade or equivalent in technical or vocational school supplemented or including courses in urban studies, planning, sustainability, drafting, graphics, commercial art or related courses or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Sound knowledge of conducting research, collecting and analyzing data, performing field studies and providing technical, communications and/or logístical support for design, planning, research and/or policy development projects
- Sound knowledge in using computer software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the Adobe suite of software for graphical representations and mapping
- Good knowledge of integrated water management and green infrastructure policy, planning, design, and/or operations
- Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time, set and meet deadlines, and adapt to emerging or changing priorities
- Ability to develop communication materials for workshops, meetings or presentations and supporting stakeholder engagement strategies
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively on inter-disciplinary teams, with staff across City departments, with contractors, consultants, outside agencies, industry stakeholders and the public
- Ability to work independently and to provide support and advice while functioning effectively in a team environment
- Ability to read and interpret architectural plans and specifications.
- Ability to perform moderately difficult statistical survey and analysis work.
- Ability to meet transportation needs
