Snowmaking Shift Lead

REPORTS TO: Snowmaking Supervisor
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Under the direction of the Snowmaking Supervisor, the main purpose is to oversee and be responsible for snowmakers and all snowmaking operations on either day or night shift.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Schedule routine for daily workload, on hill duty rotation, snow control rotation and breaks
Monitor crew’s progress (ability to follow direction, etc) and make necessary changes
Actively participate in keeping all snowmaking buildings and equipment safe, clean, and in running order. In the event of a breakdown, repair, tag or inform Supervisor of the problem
Operate snowmobiles in a safe and responsible manner. Ensure that machines are serviced on scheduled date and repair as needed
Operate snowmaking equipment and set up guns and hoses safely and properly
Check and move guns at regular intervals to maintain optimum efficiency of guns, system and run coverage
Watch for and respond to any hazards that may result from snowmaking. Respond to any systems or environmental changes as they occur
Maintain and promote good communication with crew
Report any unsafe conditions to the Snowmaking Supervisor
Train employees in their specified area of control
Responsible for cleanliness of work and lunch areas
Work outdoors in inclement weather, cold and snowy conditions
Work shift work
Physically fit and able to lift and pull heavy loads; willing to ask for assistance when required
Understand work safety programs and WHMIS training
Read, understand and comply with all Resort policies and procedures.
Other related duties as assigned
SKILLS & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Experience as a Lead or Supervisor
OH&SA Awareness
WHMIS
Snowmaking guns (ie. Ratnik Baby, Ratnik, Snow Giant, HKD Towers, McKinney Towers and Ratnik Towers, V3 Towers, T/A Fan Guns)
Snowmaking systems and instrumentation as well as snowmaking software and databases
Weather interpretation to maximize snow production
Knowledge of the ski industry
Lift Evacuation training or experience
Operation of snowmobile at an expert level
Self-motivated individual with strong communication and problem solving skills
Read & write English and able to differentiate between colours
PHYSICAL & TIME REQUIREMENTS
Day Shift Hours 0700 - 1900
Night Shift Hours 1900 - 0700
Be on call and available, if required, on days off
Follow lunch, washroom and break procedures as directed
Work outdoors, sometimes in extreme weather conditions
Physically fit and able to lift, push and pull heavy loads; willing to ask for assistance when required
Lift up to 40 lbs, assisted lifts with anything over 40 lbs
Stability to walk on uneven surfaces and icy conditions
Ability to ascend/descend a ladder and comfortable working from heights
Ability to stoops, kneel, crouch to work on snowmaking equipment
Communicate, converse with and exchange accurate information with fellow crew members and other departments in a polite and professional manner
