**Summary of Duties**:
Reports to the Manager, Waste Diversion Programs and works with other Waste Management staff. The co-op student will work with the City of London’s Waste Management team on a range of duties from landfill monitoring to public education.

The Waste Management Division is responsible for waste management planning and the day-to-day delivery of services and operation of facilities. In addition to assisting staff with their duties, the Waste Management Co-op Student will be assigned projects that will be completed within their work-term.

**Work Performed**:
Operations
- Assist with monitoring at the Material Recovery Facility and EnviroDepots
- Assist with landfill environmental monitoring
- Conduct audits of how waste materials are set out (at the curbside or at multi-residential buildings) by residents

Research and data collection
- General data compilation and analysis
- Waste management technology/program research

Community outreach and engagement
- Outreach activities to promote increased awareness and compliance with London's waste diversion programs
- Assist with the production of printed and other media to promote London's waste management services
- Assist with recycling workshops, presentations and tours of London’s waste management facilities to resident and school groups
- All work will be carried out in compliance with Covid-19 requirements

General
- Reports regularly to supervisor on work completed, including documentation, outcomes and recommendations
- Provides excellent customer service to internal service areas and the general public
- Deliveries (e.g., printed materials, Blue Boxes, Blue Carts, other)
- Assists with deliveries and the the day-to-day operations of the waste and resource material collection and diversion programs

**Qualifications/Experience**:

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to engage members of the public in discussions
- Ability to learn and convey information to others
- Ability to communicate to individuals and small groups
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills or willingness and ability to learn
- Initiative and organizational skills

Ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team.

Must be a current student enrolled in full-time studies returning to school full-time September 2023 and/or require this placement to graduate from an academic program.

**Specialized Training & Licenses**:
Ontario G Class license is required.

**Compensation Range**:
$16.92 - $23.90 (Level 3)

**Other Information**:
This posting is for 1 position.

Temporary full-time student from May-September 2023.

The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work outside the normal hours will occur throughout the eight-month term and will include work in the late afternoon to early evening, early morning and weekends.
