**Job Summary**
Reporting to the Residence Manager, the maintenance person is responsible for effective functioning and appearance of the physical facility, furniture and equipment and the preventative maintenance program at the facility. They are responsible for the security of the building and play a major role in ensuring the safety of staff and residents.
**Job Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Plan and implement a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly schedule of preventative maintenance activities to ensure the facility and equipment are safe and in good working order.
- Review maintenance log and takes corrective action to ensure problems are addressed in a timely manner.
- This position oversees all waste and recycling protocols.
- Ensures standards set by manufacturers of equipments/systems are followed and keeping in with warranties and certificates for operation.
- Provide minor building, electrical, plumbing and equipment repair services to ensure the optimum functioning of the physical facility and equipment.
- This position assists residents with concerns and issues in their suites as initiated by maintenance work order.
- Monitor the facility to identify and resolve physical facility or equipment malfunctions in an appropriate, safe and timely manner.
- Source and orders services/supplies/parts focusing on obtaining the highest quality for the most reasonable price.
- Liaise with outside suppliers/contractors to facilitate the repair and replacement of damaged or broken equipment.
- Provides support, education and information as necessary to ensure the success of additional onsite maintenance personnel.
- Develops and maintains a comprehensive tracking system to identify issues brought forward, measure taken to rectify with dates of service and inspections.
- Liaise with Joint Occupational Health and Safety committee to ensure all identified risks are resolved in a timely manner.
- Receive and stores all non-kitchen related deliveries.
- Demonstrates knowledge of fire/emergency procedures and policies of the facility; participates in fire and emergency drills.
- All safety rules and safe work procedures are adhered to at all times.
- Reports all hazards, incidents, near misses and workplace injuries to the manager immediately and in writing.
- Does not participate in unsafe situations, and corrects any unsafe conditions if able.
- Actively participates in all Health and Safety initiatives and make suggestions to improve Workplace Health and Safety.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
**Experience & Qualifications**
- Certificate from a program in general maintenance or extensive experience as a maintenance worker, with supervisory skills.
- Skills in light carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting and equipment maintenance.
- Ability to read, write, comprehend and communicate clearly in English.
- Must possess a valid B.C. Driver’s license.
