We’re a Canadian-owned and BC-based energy company taking steps toward a lower-carbon energy future by providing renewable energy, natural gas and electricity to more than 1.2 million customers.

We’re looking for new talent to join us as we transform BC’s energy future. Our diverse team of more than 2,600 employees is committed to a safe and inclusive culture where each of us can connect, belong and grow. Join us and let’s work together for a better BC. Position Overview
You’re incredibly passionate about helping people return to the workplace safely and base your supportive approach on understanding trauma and the impacts of long-term disability on mental health. You know how to connect with the needs of employees and use those insights to enhance wellness programs and support teams managing the return of team members. Your skills and expertise will help you to thrive as our Employee Wellness Specialist.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for the effective administration of FortisBC’s wellness management program and the adjudication of wellness claims, with an emphasis on mental health. This includes working closely with unions, leaders and employees to provide support and keep/return employees to the workplace in a safe and reliable manner. What success looks like:
Review, administer and manage a high case load of complex claims (with a focus on mental health), and review ongoing eligibility and entitlement to benefits based on medical documentation, functional abilities, job demands, and contractual provisions.
Build strong relationships with unions, leaders, and insurance providers.
Coordinate and manage the multiple care and service providers and stakeholders involved in the employee’s recovery journey.
Craft and assess graduated return to work schedules, conduct weekly updates and communicate with stakeholders.
Serve as point of contact in answering questions and addressing health concerns, treatment options and referrals, as required, and support employees in crisis.
Support other departments in analyzing physical demands and risks of jobs within their teams.
Assist in implementing new programs and processes related to return to work.
Promote employee health and ensures the best outcomes for injured and ill employees. What it takes:
A bachelor’s degree or diploma in human resources management or health sciences from a recognized program, plus a minimum three years of experience in disability claims adjudication or case management (including experience with mental health claims).
A Disability Management Professional (CDMP) or Return to Work Coordinator (CRWC) certification is considered an asset.
Excellent communication and organizational skills for supporting clients and their complex needs and circumstances.
Great critical thinking skills and professionalism to exercise judgment, tact, and discretion in preparing, disclosing, and handling confidential information.
Demonstrated ability to adapt and work in a fast-paced environment, including handling crisis situations as they arise.
Exceptional problem solving and conflict resolution skills for finding the best possible solutions for employees to support their return to work and overall team.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
