**Position Details**:Full-time, Permanent
**Salary Range**:$66,100 - $82,600, based on a 35-hour work week. Salary for this position will be commensurate with each individual's education and/or experience as it relates to the position.

**What You Will Do**
- You will provide technical leadership and support to the management team as it relates to DUC's overall health and safety (H&S) performance. Working with the provincial safety committees, managers, and employees, the Health & Safety Specialist will proactively identify and investigate opportunities to implement and update H&S strategies, meet H&S goals and ensure applicable legislations are consistently applied.
- Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop/update OHS program components such as Critical Task Lists, Safe Work Procedures (SWP’s), Safety Data Sheets, Toolbox Talks, PPE Fit, Care, and Use resources.
- Assist managers and safety committees in ensuring that new hires are reviewing and acknowledging the orientation training including Safe Work Procedures and other components.
- Develop, implement and maintain OHS training courses based on specific job requirements.
- Develop training matrices related to the OHS and job-specific requirements of various positions.
- Ensure overall compliance with fire code and emergency response procedures such as emergency response plans, fire extinguisher, and first aid kit inspection protocols.
- Review all completed Near miss and Incident/Accident reports and provide suggested corrective actions.
- Assist managers, supervisors, and safety co-chairs with incident investigations.
- Provide guidance and advice on a broad range of H&S areas, including but not limited to, provincial legislation, fire code regulations, emergency response plans, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery, ergonomics and occupational diseases.
- Develop effective strategies by leveraging various communication channels and tools to keep employees abreast on pertinent OHS updates/information.
- Act as the safety champion providing records and statistics regarding the corporate safety program through scheduled Health and Safety activity summaries.
- Develop and implement internal auditing processes and review provincial Certification of Recognition (CoR) audit requirements.Consistently promote a safety culture by providing quality and safe client service to achieve improved organizational performance.
**Requirements**:
- Occupational Health and Safety Certificate or Diploma and minimum of three (3) years of experience in the development of OHS programs in a corporate environment.
- Strong knowledge of provincial Safety and Health Acts and regulations.
- Familiarity with workplace safety and health issues.
- Other OHS Certifications (WHMIS, First Aid, Safety Committee, Supervisor’s Role, Safety Rep, CoR training, etc.) are considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability in writing, developing and implementing work instructions, processes and procedures.
- Must have strong work ethic and works well independently or in a team environment.
- Ability to maintain effective work relationships.
- Goal oriented who can multitask and execute work within deadlines.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Effective communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.A valid Canadian driver’s license is required as travel may be necessary.
