Job Summary

The _**Crisis Intervention Worker**_ is responsible for creating a welcoming and safe environment for the residents of Crossroads for Women (“CFW”) and always strives to achieve its mission _to help women and children transition from crisis to empowerment by providing safe housing, education, and one-on-one support._ This role provides emotional support, goal planning, advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning and offers resources and referrals to women and children and contributes to administrative and overall safety and facility responsibilities of the transition house. The Crisis Intervention Worker embodies the organization’s values and leads by example to create and sustain an organizational culture where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected.

**Responsibilities**:

- Ensures that the organization and its mission, programs, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders.
- Promotes a culture that reflects the organization’s values, encourages and rewards exceptional performance, and ensures health and safety in all operations for both staff and volunteers.
- Screens prospective residents for suitability prior to admission.
- Conducts intake interviews.
- Orients and assists residents as they settle into the house.
- Conducts house tours and room checks.
- Maintains record of client data, client chores, client meal attendance/shifts.
- Maintains all other required logs/binders.
- Performs basic office/administrative duties.
- Ensures housekeeping services such as laundry, housecleaning, grocery shopping and maintaining supplies are completed.
- Monitors and ensures the safety and comfort of residents and the security of the facility.
- Assesses residents’ immediate needs and assists them to define and implement an action plan.
- Provides information to residents on resources available and recommends appropriate services.
- Facilitates resolution of conflicts between residents.
- Provides emotional support, encouragement, goal setting and problem-solving support to residents.
- Facilitates house and/or support group meetings.
- Liaises with other service agencies and professionals.
- Maintains current knowledge of issues and resources related to abuse and violence.
- Provides presentations and public awareness activities about services and issues of abuse.
- Provides supports for individuals with complex mental health and substance misuse.
- Provides crisis intervention and risk assessment for residents and crisis line callers.
- Provides information, advocacy for and assistance to residents and crisis line callers.
- Maintains case notes, resident records, documents, forms, and statistical information.
- Performs minor maintenance around the house.
- Ensures Client Evaluations are completed and submitted prior to client leaving the house.
- Conducts onboarding, assigns duties and mentors volunteers/practicum students.
- Provides job shadowing to new Crisis Intervention Workers along with assistance and direction of the House Manager.
- Participates in training, meetings, and special events.
- Meets all annual targets.
- Performs other related duties as required.

- Ability to critically assess situations objectively, make sound decisions and follow-up
- Ability to work with compassion, to learn about issues of social justice, and to incorporate feminist, anti-racism and anti-oppression frameworks
- Ability to deal with work-related stress in a healthy manner
- Ability to work in a flexible, self-directed manner with mínimal supervision
- Ability to maintain standards of confidentiality, as well as adhere to all ethical standards and maintain professional boundaries
- Knowledge of available resources within the community to facilitate wrap around care
- Knowledge of applicable laws and issues related to intimate partner violence
- Knowledge of Trauma-informed, client-centered approach to program delivery
- Knowledge of emerging practices in service delivery to the client population
- Knowledgeable shelter services, mental health and addiction services, and community-based social services
- Familiarity with the links between gender inequalities, violence, trauma, addictions, and mental health issues
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suits as well as other web-based data management software
- Willingness to gain experience and training in providing services
