**The Opportunity**:
The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer is pleased to be recruiting a new member to join their team. The Indigenous Relations Coordinator will report to the Senior Manager, Government /Indigenous Relations & Environment and be responsible for programing and coordinating processes as it relates to reconciliation, protocol, ceremonies, Payhonin Engagement Report recommendations and Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action with the City. This includes providing interdepartmental recommendations and guidance to support the City in building relationships with Indigenous communities while supporting the development of processes, strategies, programs, and other initiatives to assist the City on its journey of truth and reconciliation.
This position will engage closely with Indigenous partners, municipal departments, and community organizations, and act as the central resource for Indigenous Relations for the City. This position will also work with all departments to provide recommendations in the review and revision of services, policies, public communications, and processes to ensure a coordinated and respectful approach to the delivery of relevant, complimentary, and quality programs and services.
**Some core responsibilities of the position include**:
- Further support the City’s reconciliation processes and efforts through meaningful internal and external collaboration
- Coordinate planning efforts of all Indigenous Ceremonies and annual commemorative events.
- Regional and Nation to Nation collaboration
- Public engagement
- Respond and report to internal departmental needs
**Qualifications**:
- A degree in Public or Business Administration, Native Studies, Community Development, or another related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of direct experience working with Indigenous Communities and Government is required.
- Lived Indigenous experience is an asset.
- Direct experience with St. Albert and surrounding local Indigenous communities & nations is an asset.
- Reconciliation training is an asset.
- IAP2 (International Association for Public Participation) certification is an asset.
- Communication Skills, conflict resolution, Group Facilitation, and time Management.
- Strong project management and writing skills.
- The role is suited to someone who works well in a fast-paced environment, is collaborative, and has a strong political acumen.
- Awareness and understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.
- Awareness and understanding of the City of St. Albert’s Payhonin report.
**Hours of Work**:
We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a regular day off [RDO] every two weeks). There is a requirement to work occasional evenings and weekends.
This position may be eligible for flex hours and partial remote work upon approval at the completion of six months.
**Compensation**:
$77,125 - $94,923 per annum. In addition, we offer a comprehensive benefit package.
