The office in **Nepean, ON** is looking for a detail-oriented and conscientious **Controller** to join the team.
**SUMMARY OF ROLE**
Reporting to the President, the Controller is responsible for the oversight and execution of all day-to-day accounting, month end close out, financial reporting, Government remittances, financial statements, and variance analysis. The Controller will work closely with the President to establish and implement financial policies, perform financial risk assessments, and prepare annual budgets and forecasts.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Manage month end close and full cycle accounting, including accruals, prepare year-end reports for audits / reviews, and assist as required
- Respond to audits as required from entities such as Revenue Canada, Ministry of Finance, WSIB, and customers
- Prepare and manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and organizational policy
- Preparation of annual budget and forecasts as required, including cash flow projections.
- Preparation of all monthly detailed financial reports
- Preparation and filing of all required Government remittances
- Administer group benefits plan, employees’ ROE, and act as key liaison for any payroll related issues
- Supervision of the accounting team
- Work with Project Managers to review monthly project cost reports and investigate variances
- Prepare and maintain labour rate schedules by customer
- Monitor invoicing for the company
- Asset management - acquisitions and disposals
- Implement and monitor company internal controls
- Inventory management
- Provide tax information as required
- Work with the external accountants to prepare the year end financials
- Provide accurate and timely information when required
- Respond quickly, accurately and courteously to employee and management inquiries
- Work to consistently improve processes and efficiencies
- Encourage a collaborative team environment
**EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES**
- Completion of a University Degree in Accounting
- CPA Designation or working towards completion is an asset
- 5+ years of Accounting experience
- 2+ years of Managerial experience
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Outlook
- QuickBooks experience an asset
- Experience with multi-province payrolls an asset
- Strong interpersonal skills combined with the ability to communicate well both verbally and written
- Ability to communicate effectively in French is an asset
- Strategic thinker with the ability to assess complex situations and make effective recommendations
- Excellent organizational skills and capability to effectively manage priorities while meeting timelines
