**Position Objective and Responsibilities**

The EYC will plan, design and implement an Indigenous Early Years program that supports the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and intellectual needs for Indigenous children aged 0 to 6 years; and builds on the four foundations of "How Does Learning Happen". Cultural programs will be delivered across Northumberland County at EarlyON and mobile outreach locations; and will build capacity with licensed childcare providers to build in Indigenous Early Years activities as part of ongoing planning and programming. The EYC will collaborate with Early Years team to plan and implement various Indigenous cultural events for families, community members and early learning partners.

The EYC will plan and deliver programs in a team environment, and where appropriate and necessary, in partnership with external agencies and participate on local and regional Committees. The position will require travel throughout Northumberland County, and when required, travel to Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre in Peterborough.

**Qualifications**:

- Registered Early Childhood Educator with consideration given to alternative related education and relevant work experience.
- Strong knowledge and awareness of local Indigenous culture and traditions.
- Strong knowledge of Indigenous historical and contemporary issues, and its impact on urban Indigenous people and families.
- Knowledge and experience working with urban Indigenous children, youth and families in a healing and reconciliation capacity.
- Ability to work professionally and collaboratively local and regional health and social service agencies.
- Ability to work within the established policies and procedures of the organization.
- Must have the ability to work independently and as a team player, with mínimal supervision, and be capable of coordinating activities within the childcare, EarlyON and early years and family programs.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
- Must possess current First Aid / CPR certification or be willing to be certified.
- Good organizational and administrative skills.
- Strong report writing skills.
- Flexible work schedule.
- Indigenous ancestry is a preference; local Indigenous language an asset.
- A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) will be a condition of the employment offer.
