Reporting to the Director, Campus Safety Office, the Manager, Emergency Planning & Administration is critical for developing and sustaining effective standardized policies and protocols that ensure the safety of all members of the University campus and protecting the reputation of the University in the event of an emergency, as well as providing comprehensive administrative management for police, fire, and emergency planning.

This position will oversee the ongoing development of the Emergency Management Plan as well as conduct emergency response exercises and deliver emergency preparedness training for the University community. The Manager of Emergency Planning and Administration is responsible for developing police, fire and dispatcher training goals, creating, and updating policies and procedures for the department and building relationships with current and new stakeholders. This position is also responsible for the overall management of the First Response Team (FRT).

In addition, the position requires full knowledge and understanding of various campus operations and functions. The position will also be responsible for the following: overseeing and developing initiatives to improve the University’s emergency response capacity, such as the campus-wide Emergency Notification System (ENS); and overseeing the development of emergency management policy. The incumbent must be able to identify emergency management training gaps and to be able to prepare and articulate to senior leadership recommendations for change and or improvements when responding to an emergency. The incumbent will also be responsible for liaising with the senior leadership team during an emergency in order that they can make thoughtful and informed decisions for strategic planning and resource allocation as required. This position will oversee two fire prevention officer positions and four dispatcher positions and may be required to fill in as the Operations Manager during their absence.

Must be able to be sworn in as a Special Constable through the Ministry.
