Job Summary:
Reporting to the Mechanical Supervisor/Mechanical Officer, the Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) will be responsible for day to day mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance, and other assigned duties in relation to the equipment and apparatus owned/operated by Guelph Fire Department, and its contract partners. As a member of the Fire Services Operations division, the EVT will work to triage, prioritize, resource, maintain and repair apparatus and equipment as required.

**Your role**:

- Respond to immediate requests for service of apparatus, vehicles, and equipment.
- Triage competing interests, prioritizing critical work, and scheduling work in advance.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment and apparatus service for asset management.
- Maintain accurate inventories of equipment and items needed for mechanical use.
- Use and maintain electronic records in the Halligan and Emergency Reporting RMS systems.
- Complete in-house work when required, including minor fabrication of items when required.
- Work with external vendors for specialized repairs, including coordination of delivery and return of vehicles required to be serviced externally.
- Maintain familiarity with all apparatus and systems and be able to act as a resource for Fire operations members on apparatus and systems use.
- Install equipment as required, including but not limited to removal and installation of radio equipment, electronic communication devices, emergency lighting and scene lighting, and other apparatus equipment.
- Perform maintenance and mechanical work on municipally owned emergency vehicles and fire apparatus, passenger, medium and heavy-duty vehicles, off road vehicles, trailers and gas, diesel and propane powered equipment.
- Maintain maintenance records as required under the Highway Traffic Act.
- May be required to respond to emergency repair calls outside regular working hours.
- Perform preventative maintenance and vehicle servicing including Preventative Maintenance Commercial Vehicle Inspections (PMCVI) by conducting visual inspections to ensure the vehicle meets Ontario Ministry of Transportation safety requirements and the vehicle is in safe operating condition.
- Use precision measuring equipment and electronic diagnosis tools.

**Qualifications**:

- Possess and maintain a valid 310T Truck and Coach Technician Certificate of Qualification with preference being given to those with an Interprovincial Standard (Red Seal).
- Possess and maintain a valid 310S Automotive Service Technician Certificate of Qualification with preference being given to those with an Interprovincial Standard (Red Seal).
- Must possess a Diesel Endorsement as issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.
- Possess the ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical problems.
- Must be physically capable of performing the required duties of Mechanic and to work outside in varying climate conditions as required.
- Must have a demonstrated interest in personal and professional development and in continuing education through ongoing learning.
- Must have the ability to attend after hours call-outs as required.
- In depth knowledge and understanding of related legislation and regulations, including NFPA standards for apparatus.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite and other applicable software.
- Familiarity with Records Managements Systems and their capabilities, and the ability to maintain vehicle and maintenance records.
- A class “DZ” Ontario Drivers Licence, with an acceptable driver’s abstract record in accordance with City of Guelph fleet policy
- Provide and maintain a Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening check.
- Considerable experience related to the duties listed above, normally acquired through progressive responsibility and experience within an emergency services agency.
