Job Summary:
**Duties**

This internship will focus on the following initiatives:
**Business Continuity Plans (BCP)**
- Facilitate presentation on the City’s Business Continuity Plan for Division Managers, General Managers and Department DCAO’s
- Track and maintain spreadsheet on current status of BCP for all components of the City
- Input questionnaire data into our BCP software
- Coordinate with different city representatives to complete BCP’s
- Meet with and document data on each specific division within the city to complete BCP’s.

**Emergency Operations Centre (EOC)/ Exercise**:

- Assist the Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC) in preparing the City‘s annual emergency exercise which involves a mock site incident and activation of the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC)
- Liaise with key stakeholders involved in the exercise including: Private industry, municipal agencies such as Fire/Police/EMS, executive and council
- Actively participating in the emergency exercise in a variety of roles
- Document and photograph the activities during the event
- Assist in preparing after action review reports
- Assist in preparing the Exercise document, players handbook and any and all other documents related to the exercise
- Other duties related to the exercise from administrative, logistics, planning and operations that could be involved to ensure a successful exercise.

**Emergency Management Plan**:

- Assist the CEMC in updating a variety of components of the current EM Plan. Work with existing documents and input data to modernize the City’s current status
- Assist the CEMC in creating new documents, incorporating them into the current EM Plan.

**Qualifications**

**Core requirements**:

- Knowledge of Ontario's emergency management legislation, regulations, plans, and general emergency management best practices
- Knowledge of Guelph’s Emergency Management Plan
- Knowledge and familiarity with Continuity of Operations Plans, as well as preparation of Business Continuity Plans
- Knowledge of provincial and federal emergency management (EM) related programs which support municipal emergency management
- Knowledge of and familiarity with Emergency operations, preparation and development of training exercises, and IMS with respect to an EOC setting
- Have completed the course: IMS-100 Introduction to Incident Management Systems, Emergency Management Ontario
- Have completed the course: EM-125 Exercise Programs - An Introduction, Emergency Management Ontario

**Education and Experience**:

- Currently enrolled in graduate studies in Emergency Management, Planning or Development
- Minimum of 0-3 years of experience
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

- You have demonstrated ability to provide frontline client /customer service and can maintain effective working relationships.
- You can prepare logs/reports/correspondence.
- You can develop and deliver basic training materials, and effectively communicate with staff and stakeholders
- You have excellent communication skills both oral and written with the ability to do presentations both in person and online in virtual settings.

**Other Essential Skills**:

- You have the ability to manage stressful situations and multiple priorities, including potentially disturbing or traumatic information which may result in increased stress and/or feelings of discomfort
- You possess demonstrated cultural sensitivity, political awareness and acuity, tact and diplomacy
- Valid G driver’s license with a good driving record
- You have a clear criminal records check, as well as a vulnerable persons criminal record clearance.

21 hours per week, Monday to Friday

$17.81 per hour
