**Accounting Controller**

**The Opportunity: Controller**

Continued growth and expansion have resulted in the need for a full-time Accounting Controller reporting to the Director of Finance. The controller position is accountable for maintaining accuracy in all accounting processes for the company.

**Principal Controller Accountabilities**

**Management**
- Maintains and enforces a documented system of accounting policies, procedures and processes.
- Works directly with project accountant in accounting projects helping to formulate solutions and improved processes to improve efficiency.
- Responsible for accounts payable processed in a timely manner and supervises AP Staff
- Vacation coverage for all accounting staff as required.
- Documentation management of accounting processes and annual reviews of process maps with a mindset of continual learning and efficiency improvement.
- Learns all processes in accounting department and helps plan resource loads.

**Actions**
- Ensure _accounts payable_ transactions are processed in a timely manner.
- Monthly reconciliations required to support month end cutoff.
- Helps implement efficiencies in processing techniques and process maps.
- Process _payroll_ entry in a timely manner
- Manage and process monthly internal cost recovery entries in a timely manner.
- Ensure that periodic _bank reconciliations_ are completed.
- Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.
- Maintain a system of controls and auditing of accounting transactions.

**Reporting**
- Monthly cutoff preparation completed in a timely manner to support financial statement preparation.
- Help prepare the corporate _annual report_ and budgets.
- Help create annual budget and forecasts.
- Investigate variances from the budget and report significant issues.
- Provide for a system of management cost reports.

**Key Skills, Capabilities and Abilities for the Controller are**:

- CPA student preferred
- Undergraduate Degree in Commerce and/or significant & broad accounting experience.
- Minimum 3 years experience in middle management accounting functions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Positive and can-do attitude towards change
- Proficiency with Office and Sage 300 is a strong asset.
- Attention to detail and commitment to working efficiently and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent time Management skills and a Team Player

**Hours and Benefits**:
On Site at head office location. 40 hours per week with group health benefits, pension plan and vision care benefits. MacGregor’s offers flexible vacation scheduling.
