The Kirsch lab at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre at University Health Network is a highly collaborative group that uses genetically engineered mouse models to study cancer and radiation biology. We seek a **Research Technician V**, who can serve as a laboratory lead and will be _responsible for the effective management, operation, and safety of our laboratory_. Experience maintaining equipment, supervising and training laboratory members, maintaining laboratory supplies and keeping detailed inventory records is desired.

In addition to managing the laboratory, the successful applicant will work with other scientists to perform molecular biology experiments using in vitro model systems to study mechanisms by which oncogenes and tumour suppressor genes regulate cancer development and response to therapies including radiation therapy. The technician will also prepare standard operating procedure (SOP) documentation and safety records, maintain sample and cell line records, and order laboratory supplies.

**Qualifications**
- At minimum completion of Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, veterinary science, or a similar field of study
- At least ten (10) years of related experience or twelve (12) years of experience with Bachelor’s degree on the standard molecular biology laboratory techniques such as:

- Experience with PCR and qPCR
- Live mammalian cell (tissue culture) handling, including tissue harvesting and processing to make cell lines
- A willingness to learn new techniques and technologies
- Orients new staff and leads by example to establish and maintain a positive culture and work environment
- Initiates and leads development and implementation of guidelines, procedures and standards for industry compliance
- Responsible for Lab organization, equipment/supply sourcing, maintenance and arranging repair/replacement.
- Provides direct supervision for lower-classified staff.
- Identifies potential problems, advises investigator/director and recommends alternative solutions
- Collaborates with investigators to plan and allocate staff assignments
- Assists PI to oversee and ensure lab safety and successful inspections.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Meticulous and detail-oriented
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a team environment
- Project leadership and management experience is considered an asset.
