**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

The Manager is responsible for all aspects of planning, organizing, and directing several projects undertaken by the Healthy Communities/Environments Program to carry out its mandate of developing and delivering a range of public health initiatives. A key mandate is the implementation of the Population and Public Health Strategy. The Manager provides support and leadership for Healthy Living and Healthy Communities and Environments, Injury Prevention, emergency management, and Community Development activities. The Manager is responsible for the management of fiscal, human and material resources, leads or assists with identified projects, proposes new initiatives, liaises with other Island Health programs, and assists with stakeholder engagement, communications and quality improvement activities.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master's degree in a relevant discipline and seven (7) years of relevant experience, including several years' management experience, preferably in public health promotion and community development. Regulatory practice experience is an asset, but not required.

**Skills And Abilities**:

- Demonstrated leadership ability in complex and highly changeable situations.
- Able to operate independently and complete projects within sensitive timelines.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills; ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships and facilitate personal development.
- Demonstrated management skills including understanding of group process and experience resolving complex multi-stakeholder issues.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to integrate administrative, professional and operational aspects of programs and projects an effective and efficient manner.
- Demonstrated analysis, planning and evaluation skills within the health care system.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
