We are currently seeking a **Processing Manager **to lead our Processing Team at our Goderich Salt Mine site in Goderich, Ontario. This is not a fly in / fly out position.
The Goderich Mine is located 1,800 feet under Lake Huron on the shores of Goderich, Ontario. It is the largest underground salt mine in the world and has been operating since 1959. This location employs over 500 people and annually produces 6.5 million tons of highway de-icing salt and chemical salt. It is transports product to customers around the Great Lakes and along the St. Lawrence Seaway via vessel, rail and roads. The salt is also used to make plastics, detergents, disinfectants, and other important products.
Goderich is named Canada’s Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets. Goderich is a lakeside community of 8,000 people located approximately 1 ½ hour from London & Stratford, Ontario and a 1 ½ hour drive from Kitchener-Waterloo.
The Processing Manager will be focused on safe production, with supervisory responsibility over processing and shipping departments. This position reports to the VP of Operations and is responsible for managing and budgeting for the processing operations. They will be providing leadership for the processing department, promoting safety and productivity, short and long term planning of surface processing and shipping as well as planning for labour requirements. The position also requires the incumbent to coordinate planned shipping and production needs.
**How will you contribute to the team?**
- Responsible for maintaining the safe operation of the operation/departments. Oversee a department of up to 8 supervisors along with upwards of 100 indirect reports and clerical activities.
- Management and budgetary responsibility for Shipping and Processing Operations.
- Development, implementation and enforcement of operational and safety standards, policies and procedures.
- Assist in the development of the long term planning and capital investment along with being accountable for the execution of the annual budget.
- Being a key contact for external stakeholders.
- Short and long term production and maintenance planning to ensure supplies of finished products are adequate meet the shipping schedules.
- Coordinate production needs and planned maintenance activities with the maintenance department.
- Work with logistics and sales to ensure correct product mix is available.
- Coordinate shaft activities to maximize hoisting capacity and shaft utilization.
- Collaborate with mining and engineering departments to maintain the integrity of the mine travel ways.
- Constantly review performance data to develop and implement changes necessary to improve safety, productivity and lower production costs.
- Ensure safety incidents are thoroughly investigated and recommendations implemented.
- Participate on the Joint Health and Safety Committee as a Management representative.
- Develop specifications for new equipment, assist in the sourcing and purchase.
- Ensure customer product specifications are met.
- Participate in labour relations activities including grievances.
- Contribute to the development of engineering projects and coordinate engineering needs from other departments during project implementation.
- Responsible for operation of the underground surge, mill, skipping line, all three hoists and shafts, rail loading, surface storage, and vessel loading.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
**You bring to the role**:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering - Mining or Mechanical
- 10 years mining or mineral processing experience required
- 3-5 years supervisory leadership and management skills required
- Strong safety values and behaviours
- Excellent interpersonal skills related to dealing with in a multi-shift, unionized environment
- Professional communication skills, both written and verbal
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Access) is a requirement
- Enthusiastic leader who is easily adaptable and able to work with individuals at a variety of levels within the organization
- Excellent time management skills; the individual must be well-organized and possess the ability to prioritize tasks and remain calm under stressful situations
- Soft rock underground processing experience is preferred
Asset
- Experience in a unionized labour environment
- Experience with Port Authorities (shipping), rail, and heavy trucking.
- Experience with Reliable Asset Management.
