Student Building Assistant

To qualify for this summer student position, students must currently be enrolled in school full-time for the 2023/2024 winter term (normally ending April, May or June) and/or returning to school full-time in the 2024 fall term (normally starting in August or September).
**Job description**
The Building Assistant Student provides customer and clerical support to building development services.
**Essential responsibilities**
- Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies
- Provide customer service for division
- Provide clerical support to Building Services, including
- Phone inquiries
- Walk In inquires
- Zoning letters
- Filing of property files
- Filing of building plans
- Ordering stationary
- Update building databases
- Assist in coverage of office counter
**Essential qualifications**
- Experience working in an office environment
- Excellent customer service experience in an office/business environment, with good people skills on the telephone and in person
- Must be a team player as well as have initiative
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to work independently, as well as participate as part of a team
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook (or similar software programs)
**Work environment/hours of work**
- This position works indoors
- This position works weekday hours
**COVID-19 Vaccination**
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent no longer requires a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. Although it is not mandatory to be vaccinated, it is highly encouraged.
**Essential physical and/or safety requirements**
- Walking: constant walking on level surface (walk through the building department where all surfaces are level)
- Sitting: constant sitting in a chair (sitting at desk)
- Standing: frequent standing inside (waiting on customers)
- Hands: constant mousing (move mouse on the computer)
