Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in various areas within Recreation Services, including camps, aquatics, and Play Pod programs.
  • Provide positive customer service and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Assist staff in daily operations and special event preparation and delivery tasks.
  • Implement the philosophies of HIGH FIVE and maintain program participation statistics.
  • Enforce rules consistently, tactfully, and promptly.
  • Follow policies and procedures in the CK REC Summer Manuals.
  • Maintain qualifications and certifications.
  • Provide customers with program information and maintain a positive image with the public.
  • Seek additional training opportunities and assist with handling concerns.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in school full-time for the 2023/2024 winter term or returning to school full-time in the 2024 fall term.
  • 14 years of age or older (16 years of age or older for some camp locations).
  • Students must have transportation to and from various locations.
Certifications/Memberships/Licenses:
  • Current Certification in Standard First Aid/CPR (WSIB approved).
  • Certified with the High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development.
Work Environment/Hours of Work:
  • This position works both indoors and outdoors.
  • This position works weekday hours, with afternoon, evening, and weekend hours.
COVID-19 Vaccination:

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent no longer requires a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. Although it is not mandatory to be vaccinated, it is highly encouraged.

Driver's Licence/Vehicle Requirements:

A valid Province of Ontario driver's licence with a reliable motor vehicle is preferred.

Background Check Requirements:

The successful candidate will be required to furnish an original vulnerable sector Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment.

Essential Physical and/or Safety Requirements:
  • Maintenance (wearing proper footwear and PPE).
  • Completion of Health & Safety course.
  • Protecting self from the sun (sunscreen, hat, and hydrating with water).
  • Non-slip footwear (no crocs, spongy flip flops, etc.).
  • Closed-toed shoes (no crocs, flip flops, etc.).
  • Bending: frequent crouching (up to 13.64 kgs or 30 lbs cleaning and setting up equipment/toys).
  • Walking: frequent balancing; constant walking on level surface.
  • Throwing (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (equipment clean up and maintenance; camp games, crafts implementation and set up).
  • Standing: frequent standing inside, outside (more than 30 minutes at a time).
