In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary

UBC has embarked on a multi-year journey to transform its academic and administrative support processes and system environments for the entire UBC community. In November 2020, UBC successfully went live with its new HR and Finance implementation of Workday. The Integrated Renewal Program (IRP) is now focused on the journey to renew the Student information ecosystem, anchored by the implementation of Workday Student.

The Integrated Renewal Program—Student (IRP Student) vision is to transform the way UBC supports learning and research, and how UBC works, to create a cohesive, integrated, and enriched experience for students, staff, and faculty. This implementation will result in superior support for UBC students, a better user experience, a new set of tools, a new way of working, and improved reporting for informed decision-making. IRP Student will leverage the industry-leading cloud enterprise solution Workday to replace our current core Student administration systems with a new integrated, user friendly, mobile-enabled platform.

The Business Analyst ll, Data & Reporting leads the assessment of client needs in an effort to align business initiatives with information technology solutions. The Business Analyst, Data & Reporting will provide expertise in the areas of requirements definition, business process analysis and design, functional design, configuration, implementation, reporting, testing, training and documentation to deliver enterprise solutions to the UBC community, with a focus on data analysis and delivery. The majority of work will be performed in a formal project team. Projects typically have a high degree of complexity, influence, and impact as solutions are generally designed for most constituents in the UBC community.

Organizational Status

The Business Analyst ll, Data & Reporting reports to the Senior Business Analyst, Data & Reporting in the IRP Student Reporting team.
- Works daily with a project team typically made up of a project manager, developers, functional experts, and other project specialists
- Works closely with a broad range of stakeholders, including management and staff of UBC IT, clients from administrative and academic units, and external entities including vendors, regulatory agencies, and partner institutions.

Work Performed

Specific Duties:

- Assignments include but not limited to work on enterprise systems such as the Student Information System (SIS), HR, Finance, UBC e-Payment, etc.
- Ensures solutions are consistent with the overall technical and business architecture of the university and complies with UBC IT and university policies, as well as governmental legislation and other external entities compliancy requirements on security, privacy, and accessibility.
- Analyze and document data domains and associated reporting requirements to inform the scope and architecture of the transactional or the data platform.
- Provide insights to data modelers to ensure requirements are covered by the underlying data model.
- Participates in the design of ETL source-to-target mapping specifications.
- Gather report requirements, design and implement regular reports in transactional or analytical platforms
- Profile and convert data using a variety of resources, including spreadsheets, reports and SQL for large volumes
- Lead stakeholder requirements gathering and review sessions and obtain sign-offs as required.
- Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of the university s technical and business environment.
- Understands key technical environments to effectively identify integration, security, scalability, and performance requirements.
- Build and maintain good working relationships with project teams, business analyst peers, colleagues, and client stakeholders.
